Hey there, I am applying for outland to sponsor my spouse who is Australian- we both live in Canada. When it comes to his police certificate and full license history search (he's from VIC), do we need to have them send it to Canada or can we send them to his parents in Australia and then they can email us a scanned copy? And if we need to have an original copy, would anyone know how long it usually takes to get them from Australia? I've look everywhere and I can't determine if they need an original copy or scanned copy is okay. Thank you!

Stupid question perhaps, but have you checked the application procedure for the PCC? Since it's online, do they send the certificate in electronic form?

Hey there,

For outland, we are hoping to both visit Australia when their borders open up and I am under the impression that applying outland will allow us to both move freely during the waiting process. Is this correct? Will we have an issue if we are abroad while we are waiting for an answer? Will they need us to be here at all- ie. RCMP police check later on?

They do not send an electronic format, they will mail you the results.

Thank you :)

That is a good reason to apply outland, assuming you are a citizen. Note that if you're abroad for long and especially if no longer working/resident in Canada, you may need to provide info about your intent to return.

For your pcc, too bad it's sent by mail. Not clear to me either whether original required in your case but if it were me I wouldn't risk it by just sending a scan.

Okay, yeah that's what I was leaning towards. Do you know if they require a Canadian police check from him later on if it would be a problem if he isn't here? And about the intent to return, do you know when that may be required? Thank you.

I don't know about the Canadian police check (since living in Canada now, does he need to sbumit?).

There are several threads here about intent to return for citizen-sponsors abroad: job hunts, apartment searches, other arrangements, etc. If you're just travelling for a while and eg have a place and job to go back to, should be easier, if it comes up at all.
