Hey guys!

On the outland PR common law application, especially form IMM 5490, it asks questions that imply you are currently living outside of Canada. I am currently living IN Canadabut will be applying outland. I know I can do this. I'm just wondering how to go about answering the questions:

- was there a formal ceremony to celebrate the relationship? (what is this and no we didnt. We just are in a relationship and love each other)
- was there a reception? (a reception?? we arent married yet! What does this mean?)
- has your sponsor visited you during the relationship? (we never left each other ... Ive been living Canada?)
- have you visited your sponsor during the relationship? (See above)
- How do you and your sponsor communicate when you are not together? (we rarely arent except for work and we use a cell phone)
- How often and in what languge? (I dont think these questions are relevant for us?)
- Have you lived together? (Yes)

Thanks! :)

This is usually for married folks, put N/A or No
- was there a reception? (a reception?? we arent married yet! What does this mean?)
Again for married people, N/A or no.
- has your sponsor visited you during the relationship? (we never left each other ... Ive been living Canada?)
So your sponsor never went to visit you? Then obviously it's no.
- have you visited your sponsor during the relationship? (See above)
You're visiting her RIGHT NOW, so that would be yes (unless you are on a working visa)
- How do you and your sponsor communicate when you are not together? (we rarely arent except for work and we use a cell phone)
You just anwsered it, cell phone.
- How often and in what languge? (I dont think these questions are relevant for us?)
Yes it is, how often do you talk to each other using the phone? What language?
- Have you lived together? (Yes)
Considering you are applying common-law, you put yes.

Thanks! :)

The questions can be a bit awkward because they are worded for people who live outside Canada...hence the outland bit :)

At the top of Page 3 it asks if you're married. You select No and proceed straight to Question 20. Ignore all the questions in between.
N/A
- was there a reception? (a reception?? we arent married yet! What does this mean?)
N/A
- has your sponsor visited you during the relationship? (we never left each other ... Ive been living Canada?)
If you met each other while both in Canada and have never visited each others countries on holiday just write that you've both lived in Canada for the duration of your relationship
- have you visited your sponsor during the relationship? (See above)
Probably not applicable or just write the same answer as the above question
- How do you and your sponsor communicate when you are not together? (we rarely arent except for work and we use a cell phone)
I answered this - "Primarily by email or instant messaging services"
- How often and in what languge? (I dont think these questions are relevant for us?)
I answered this - "Daily, in english"
- Have you lived together? (Yes)
If this is Question 27 - Yes...give the start date and leave the "To" date blank or write "Present" in pen when you print. The form only accepts a date when you type it in Word

Hi guys! I have a question about he above questions.

any help would be great and I thank you in advance!

it asks if my sponsor has visited me. we both went on holiday to the uk while we were in a relationship but living in canada. does this mean we answer no to the question? we went together so she didn't visit me.

it asks if I have visited my sponsor during the relationship. we have been living in canada for the duration of our relationship. we did meet in australia. Ive been in canada on a work permit the entire time however.

also with regards to my address ... my mailing address is here in vancouver. however, I also reside here in vancouvrr and have done so since january 2011. do I put canada as my residence? is this ok to put or do I have to put the UK?

thanks again.

Your circumstances are similar to mine. Here's what I wrote:
it asks if my sponsor has visited me.
Yes, we travelled to the UK together from *date* to *date*

it asks if I have visited my sponsor during the relationship.
Yes, we have lived together in Canada from *date* to *date*

Residential Address - I put mine as UK
Mailing Address - I put mine as my current address in Canada

Hope that helps

What you want to do is write up a supporting document of your "relationship timeline"

Date - first met and place
Date - started living together
Date - traveled together

etc.

Are you in Canada on a tourist Visa?

I have not lived in the UK since 2003 but I still put it down as my residential address because I am in Canada on a tourist visa. If you are here on a work visa or something, then you could probably put down your Canadian address.

And yes, you're going to need to write down a supporting document of your timeline.

I did three...

My timeline for the last 10 years (living travel etc)
His timeline for the last 10 years
And, our timeline together for the past 3 years.

If that's the case, I would really go with your UK address to save you making changes later. But, continue to put your mailing address as Canada. After all, you're here on a temporary visa so technically, your permanent address is in the UK.

The timelines will be in your supporting documents.

I made an index for my supporting documents under categories such as travel documents, timelines, photos, police reports etc. If I were you, I would not start filling out the forms until you have all your supporting documents ready and in order. That way, when you fill out the forms, you can put things like "see supporting document 1.0". Make an index for your supporting documents so that it's easy for the officer to understand your application.

Once you start gathering your supporting docs, it will fall into place.

If you haven't done your medicals yet, book an appointment and try to do it right before you send your application. THey have a one year validity and that way you won't risk them expiring before your application has been approved.

Ok sounds good. It'll also save problems with them saying I should be going inland!

I've got the medicals booked for next week and waiting on police certs. were working on all the evidence now and its slowly coming along.

is the format for it being sent the following:
my sponsors forms
my forms
the evidence
?

we should arrange all the evidence in an order and give it a contents page yeah?

Yes. I suppose you really have to organise it in a way that makes you comfortable. But yes, that's the general way of laying it out. I put my contents page at the front and then sectioned the pages off with paper clips and gave.

EG.

1.0 Sponsor forms
1.1. Sponsor form Immi***
1.2 Sponsor form Immi***

2.0 Applicant Forms
2.1. Applicant form Immi***

3.0 Receipt of Payment

4.0 Medical

5.0 Supporting Documents
5.1 Photos (Labeled and dated)
5.2 Timelines
5.2.1 Sponsor Timelie
5.2.2 Applicant Timeline

and so on.
