Hello All,
Me and my fiance are planning on getting married next year (September 2021). We do have long distance relationship. However, I'm worried my criminal history may stop me from sponsoring her after I marry her.

In 2011 when I was 21, I was charged with Invitation to sexual touching (section 152). In 2013, I was convicted summarily (less serious when comparing to indictable offences) and sentenced to 14 days in jail, as well as received 12 months probation.

All of which has been completed except. When looking at my CPIC, the only information which shows on my criminal profile are:
The year I was convicted: 2013The Charge: Invitation to sexual touching (section 152)The sentence: 14 days in jail, and 12 months probation
Aside from this information the, nothing else shows up on my CPIC. Due to the nature of the criminal offence, I'm not eligible to receive a pardon or a record suspension.

Since the day the offence occurred, I've turned my life around for the better. I went to college and graduated with high honours. I also went to university and graduated. Now, I'm working a full time Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm office job. I have spoken to an immigration lawyer, and he told me that I should not have any issues sponsoring my fiance, as its been more than 5 years since the conviction.

The only thing which the immigration lawyer has told me that, due to the nature of my conviction, my spouse in Pakistan may be required to see an immigration officer for an interview. During the interview process, my spouse may be asked questions about my criminal history. This is something which is in the past, and I do not feel comfortable sharing this information with my fiance until she arrives in Canada.

My question for you guys is, has any one been through the interview process where your significant other has a criminal conviction, and where their any questions asked about your spouse's criminal history?
Aside from that, what kind of questions were asked during the interview process.

The short answer to your question is yes. If an interview is required, it's possible they will ask about your spouse about the conviction and ask if she is aware of it and what details she knows.

I think this is unfair for your fiance to not found out about your crimial history until you two are married and after she travelled all the way to Canada.
But it's your life, and your relationship. I think if an interview is called for, they can and likely will ask your fiance questions about your criminal history.

If my partner was convicted of a sex crime against a child and neglected to inform me, I would file for divorce. This is a massive breach of trust.

More to the point, if you are likely to have an interview and be questioned regarding the legitimacy of your marriage, it will absolutely come up, along with why you didn't inform your partner. I imagine the officer's stomach might turn as much as mine. This is not something you "forget" to tell someone and you have stated you will purposefully keep her in the dark "until after she arrives in Canada".

It's nice that you went to college and got a job, but that doesn't preclude someone from being a pedophile. If you were so confident you had turned your ways around, why wouldn't you be honest with your partner?
