Hi, all!

Today was a great day for me, my partner received his COPR in the mail! Couldn't be more happy!

Now that we have been approved, I have some questions about landing, PR card & OHIP. (I have been researching for hours, and I can't seem to find solid answers to these questions - hoping someone can help!)

1) My American partner is going to be landing THIS SATURDAY, as he already had a flight booked to visit before Christmas. Him and I are supposed to be travelling back to the USA a few days before Christmas to spend it with his family, then come back to Canada together. Since my partner will have not have his PR card by that time, is leaving Canada and re-entering going to be an issue for him?

2) If my partner leaves for 5 days around Christmas and returns, will this abolish his chances of getting OHIP?

Thank you so much for any information you can provide!

No it wont be an issue. He can travel on his Visa exempt passport. When he gets back to canada all the officer will do is swipe his Passport and they will know he is PR.
No it will not affect his chances of getting OHIP coverage.

I would also recommended to bring the copr with you when traveling without the pr card (most times it will be stapled into the passport at landing). not sure if it's actually necessary, since they scan passports as mentioned above. though, it's better to be safe than sorry!

The COPR isn't actually needed. Best to leave it safe at home.
