questions about sponsoring my boyfriend from South Africa!

My boyfriend is from South Africa and I am Canadian and I want to sponsor him to come to Canada. We have been together for a year and a half and I have visited him twice for a month each time and he comes to work here in the summer as a TFW.

1) I am wondering if I am eligible to sponsor him as a conjugal partner. We cannot live together for a year, I have been in nursing school since we met so I cannot move there and I believe I would only be issued a TRV for up to 90 days anyways. He can get a visitors visa for up to 6 months for Canada. I do not know what the likelihood of being able to extend our visas to year is so that we could live together and become common-law. I would not want to waste 6 months and support him and then find out he can not stay longer. I don't even know if it is possible to spend a year in each others countries. Please advise me if we should apply as conjugal partners or if there is a way to be apply to apply as common-law or if spousal is the only option.

2) Is it better to apply inland or outland? Which way can we be together? I believe outland is faster correct me if I am wrong.

3) After sponsorship forms are sent how long does it take for my boyfriend to get a work visa? If we apply outland can he still get a work permit for Canada? Ideally I would like us to both live in Canada while waiting because I will be able to make better money here as a nurse.

1. You have little chance of being approved as a conjugal partner. There is no immigration barrier preventing you from living together. He could come to Canada and simply apply to extend his stay, citing that he's wanting to establish the required one year cohabiting with you to qualify. Many people do this.

2. Outland is faster for most people.

3. If he applies Inland (once he's qualified as your common-law partner), he should get the work permit (OWP) in ~ 4 months...however, there's no guarantee that the OWP pilot program will be extended beyond December 31st. It should be extended, but nobody knows for sure if CIC will extend it.

Okay so if he comes on a six month visa there is a good chance he could get an extension for at least another 6 months?

If we apply through outland can we wait in Canada?
