Yes, you can go aboard and once you come back to Canada, with your visa stamped in passport and COPR, you can do the landing progress at the airport.

I don't think you will need visa to LEAVE Canada :D
You only need VISA to ENTER Canada. So this visa is for you to do landing once, and since then you can use PR card to enter Canada.

Have a nice trip :) :)

I had exactly the same issue, as when I land to Canada I might travel before receiving my PR card, so I VO at Call center said that I need to request for travel documents from the consulate abroad. However the answer was not very clear, I also saw that consulates abroad have section for "travel documents for PR".
So far I am not very clear whether this PR visa provide us right for multiple entry or not.
My impression is that only PR card is proving that I am PR, and before receiving it I need to request something else:) but could not find clear answer so far.
if someone can suggest official link about this i would appreciate.
I am also waiting for the reply from the conculate.

1. You don't need visa to LEAVE Canada
2. Let's say you leave and come back, at the airport you can do the landing with your PR VISA and COPR, then you are a landed-immigration.
3. Now, you are waiting for the PR card.
4. Before the PR card comes, you CANNOT leave Canada because you DO NOT have another VISA for you to enter Canada.
5. Before your PR card comes, you can apply for travel document if you have to leave Canada, the travel document will let you come back to Canada.
6. Once you receive your PR card, you are all good.

so this is what i understood from visa officer, i mean point 4 and 5 . as point 1 is very obvious no one veer concern the right of leaving a country, while the issue is entry :)
i have no idea what is that travel document, but I have requested :)
And thank you for clarifying, I was just looking more option about this travel document, do they have application and etc. It would be perfrect that I received visa, CORP and travel document at once .

Here is the link about Travel Document: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

Travel Document is like a temporary PR card, which can be used for a PR to enter Canada.
So I don't think you can receive VISA, COPR and travel document at the same time, because you have to be a landed immigration before you can apply travel document. :)

You may require urgent process for your PR card after landing if you really have emergency reason to go abroad, I heard.

Hope other seniors can give you more information. Good luck/trip.

I just completed my landing last week and asked the officer about leaving Canada while waiting for PR Card. He specifically told me that if you are from a Visa Exempt Country, you do not need a PR Card to enter Canada. All you need is your passport because once you have completed landing your PR Status is linked to your passport. So, if you are from a Visa Exempt Country feel free to come and go without your PR Card. Now if you are not then you will need a Visa to enter Canada and most airlines will not let you on without one. Hope this helps.

Good point :)

Both of them mentioned they sent passport or they have a visa stamp on their passport, so I assume they are not from Visa Exempt Country.
