Question regarding to the eligibility of re-enter Canada with valid closed work permit (Laid off by employer)

Hello experts,

Does anyone knows or had similar experience about eligibility of traveling outside & re-enter Canada after laid off by the employer which sponsored the closed work permit? I know that as long as the work permit is valid (before expiry), I can legally stay within Canada without working. But I am not quite sure about the policy of re-entering Canada in this case. To extend my status in Canada, I also applied & got a study permit month ago and has already begun my first semester this Fall. Is it possible to persuade the CSBA officer to let me in as non visitor (worker/student) ?

Any thoughts & insights are quite appreciated! Thanks!

Do you have a valid TRV visa to re-enter?

Yes. Both of my TRV visa and work permit are still valid until Jan. 2024
So you can try to re-enter as a visitor. CBSA may ask for proof of employment since you are on a closed work permit when you enter Canada. You will not know that until you go through immigration.

Got it. Thanks for the insight! I guess it may be completely up to the CBSA officer then.... If they allow me to enter as a visitor, they may also specified the date when I have to leave Canada in my passport.

Correct. They may give you a week. Make sure you can show lots of funds or proof you are just coming to get your things and leaving.

Thanks for the tips! That's really important. I also got a study permit from inside Canada month ago and have already begun my first semester this Fall. Do you think something will changes regarding to this situation?

Why didn’t you say this in your first post. Honestly tell the whole story and not waste time in all these posts.
