On the document check list for inland sponsorship, CIC wants sponsor to send original T4s obtained from CRA. Is it the same as the T4 we received from employers every year? I have ordered this from CRA but haven’t received it yet after 3 weeks and just wondering if I can use copies I got from my employers.

Thanks

And original T4 would be one from your employer. CRA does not issue a T4 (unless you actually work for CRA).

I called them. CRA do have original T4s from my employers and they can mail it to me. I dont know if their T4 version, called 'original', is different from the ones issued by employers. Or they are the same.

If you are able to get T4s from CRA, they will be "duplicate copies" of T4s. They will not give you the originals. These copies will be the same T4s that employers give out to employee's.

But what you really want is option C printout of the recent taxation year. This is what you submit to CIC for sponsorship.

Please help me clarify what I see on the document checklist:

An original Option C printout of your last Notice of Assessment for the most recent taxation year along with printouts of all income slips (e.g. T4, T4E, T5 and T5007). To obtain these printouts free-of-charge from the Canada Revenue Agency, call 1 800 959-8281.

What I get out of that is you need the original Option C, which you do get from the CRA, plus non-original (which is why they said 'printouts') of the income slips. I assume if you ask CRA for them you'll get their duplicate copies, and thus do not need to be the original ones you get from the employers.

So I need both NOA and T4s ?

Yeah, that's what I'm assuming since it says 'along with'. When you call CRA you'll get a list of automated options, and just ask for the Option C printout, plus T4s.

Unless something changed recently, all you need is Option C. That is what I provided. I didn't include any NOA or T4.

But she's doing Inland sponsorship. Does that make a difference? Her checklist specially mentions T4s (also it says Option C printout of her NOA, so not the NOA but the Option C)

I thought the sponsor forms were the same for both inland and outland. But of course i could be wrong.

Oh I have no idea, lol. Maybe it changed recently, then.

So I have to call CRA again to request Option C and not NOA. CIC gives me headache from start

I had CRA send me option C printout and copies of all T4, T3 income slips to send in with the sponsor sponsorship application.

They just told me the NOA is Option C. They only send out one version of NOA now, and it is Option C.
