Question on Work Permit extension during Citizenship application

Hi everyone,

I was doing my citizenship application online and I got this huge road block. In the application they are asking if I ever had temporary resident permit in the last 5 years (work permit), which I had.

I got my CoPR on 13 Aug 2019. My Work Permit was set to expire by 31 Aug 2019. So, I had already applied for a Bridge Open Work Permit on 31 July 2019 and got the receipt of acknowledgement right away. But there was no decision received on this bridge application because I got PR on 13 August 2019.

Now in the Citizenship application, it asks "Did I apply for extension of the status", I said "Yes". And then it goes, "Was the extension approved". When I give "Yes", it's asking "Expiry date of extended status", which I cannot provide because it wasn't approved or rejected as I got the PR by 13 Aug 2019. If I give "No" here, it says, "Date of decision for the refused extension" which again I cannot provide as I never received any such decision.

This is exactly where I am stuck in my Citizenship Online application. Could anyone please help me ? Thanks.

An update: Going through my emails, I found an email from CIC quoting my Bridge Open work Permit number in the email and the content says "Your application has been updated" and another email with "You have a new message(s) in your account." Both these emails was received on 16 September 2019.

But I do not remember what was the update or the message at all. Probably because I got the PR already, I did not pay much attention, but it's my bad.

Hi Olga,

No, I didn’t figure it out. I applied paper application instead online.

We can say 'Yes' and add an additional document to the application explaining about the situation. This was advised to me by one of the IRCC agents. Sorry folks for not getting back to this thread earlier.
