Hi Everyone,

My parents got their SuperVisa by Dec 2021. But my mom was diagnosed with a critical disease soon after and she is under treatment. Doctors has confirmed she can travel to Canada but has to do regular check-up every 3 months.

Now my insurance provider is saying they do not cover anything else but emergency. Meaning there has to be a symptom that led to a doctor/clinic visit and hence can claim for reimbursement. But no routine checkups are covered.

What is a best practice to do in these cases? Should I pay for my mom's routine checkups from pocket? Or, should I purchase a separate insurance for that purpose?

Please let me know what do you do in these situations.

Pay out of pocket. It will cost your more to get coverage for the routine checkups than it will if you pay out of pocket.

Also note that her medical coverage will almost certainly not covered any emergencies that are related to her critical disease. Normally this is in the fine print regarding pre-existing conditions. So you should be prepared for that as well and/or check on this with the insurer.

….and if she ends up in the hospital due to her pre existing conditions, the hospital bill can run into the tens of thousands.
Set some money aside just in case

If she needs to see a specialist for a check-up that also could be very difficult. Those with provincial are prioritized and due to covid wait list may be very long. Many specialist do not accept private patients.

the visitor visa & super visa are covered mostly for any medical emergency.. the pre-existing disease has generally stability period with most companies 120days stable/180days stable, etc. but need to check based on disease & treatment provided.
also as regular checkups are not medical emergency so mostly companies not cover them.
