Question on reapplying

I applied for my VV (new portal) on Mar 22 and yet the review has not started (180 days past). I am considering a re-application but am confused about whether to apply for a SWOP or VV.

My question is is there any benefit in re-applying from old portal? or should I apply from the new portal again?

Moreover, If I apply for SWOP, can I consider appllying for SWOP but use the SWOP permit for visits only in Canada ? Is it mandatory for SWOP holders to work or the visa can be used for travelling only ?

I requst for members' valuable opinions.

I am an Indian national currently working in Singapore.

There is no point in reapplying for a TRV. You will only put yourself at the back of the queue.

If you have a spouse working or studying in Canada and you want to live with them then SOWP would be the proper visa/permit. You don’t have to work while on an SOWP it is just a permanent status in Canada versus being a visitor. If you do have a spouse working or studying in Canada and you apply for a TRV there may be concerns that you want to remain in Canada and you aren’t only planning on a short visit. If there are concerns that you are planning on remaining in Canada with your spouse your TRV will be denied. It is tough to prove that you will only be visiting your spouse in Canada so would suggest you apply for an SOWP if your spouse has at least 6 months left on their study or WP. You should be hearing about your TRV relatively soon so you may want to wait and see the outcome of the TRV first.

Thanks for the feedback. It is the very long wait that made me feel to reapply. But as you said, waiting keep me in queue.
