hi,

im a permanent resident and would like to ask your opinion or if someone here already tried marrying her (same-sex) girlfriend in canada and was able to successfully sponsor after the marriage?

my girlfriend is planning to visit canada and we're planning to get married. we're in a relationship for about 8 years now. we are not qualified as common law so marriage is the direction we can think of.

anyone has inputs?

thanks.

It should be fine. CIC allows people to sponsor their same-sex partner or spouse.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

I'm curious to know if someone here has tried this step (same-sex) and how did it go?

I know several couples who have both immigrated as same sex (common-law) couples and married same-sex couples successfully, including one complex case (an excessive demand exempt medical inadmissibility case). It should not be any more complicated for a married same-sex couple as a married opposite-sex couple.

Good luck!
