question about subsequent border crossing from the US after airport crossing

hey everyone,

As mentioned in previous posts, my American wife is planning to visit me for a longer time soon. The current situation is that she is in Canada right now after visiting her family in the southern US. When she returned, she put on her customs card that she is only planning to stay a day as she needs to return to Washington to do a few things. Then she'll come back up later by car.

My buddy, who has already gone through some of these processes with his wife coming from Germany and now his wife's elderly mother has suggested that now that she's up here, I should go down and do her errands instead and save her from doing another border crossing. My concern with this is that if she put down that she's only staying for 1 day on the customs card, will they not expect that she do so and then give her trouble the next time she crosses, whenever that is down the road? Or does it only matter that they didn't stamp her passport and therefore she can stay for 6 months without issue?

Our plan is to have her outland PR application submitted within the next few days and extend her visitor status in the likely event that it takes longer than 6 months.

Thanks again everyone, and hope I'm not sounding too repetitive asking the same general question in different ways. I'm already prone to anxiety and this situation has my anxiety through the roof! Really want to make sure we do everything properly.

All that matters is what's in her passport. No stamp equals 6 months.

I've been facing a very similar situation, even to the point of being from the southern U.S. I'm sorry I can't offer any good advice, though. I'm just trying to avoid border crossing until PR.

Good news is that others on this forum have said that if you are married and have a PR fees receipt, it can be easier to cross. Maybe getting that will help with your wife's border crossing, if you haven't already.
