Question about part-time work counting

Hi,

I have full-time experience working from February 2017 to December 2018 so 22 months.

Before that, I was a paid intern working a minimum of 30 hours a week (part-time) from August 2016 to January 2017 so 5 months. My question is can I combine both of that to make my work experience outside of Canada be 2 years?

I have payslips and everything for both.

One additional question.

I also freelance and have been doing it for years for various websites but mostly paid via PayPal. I have income tax returns from outside Canada highlighting this but at most, it was 20 hours per week. Can that be counted too?

Thanks!

Yes you can claim all work experience as long as you have proof, even part time. But part time work experience counts for less time than full time. And with all you need to prove that you completed the duties for the NOC so an internship may not count. You need reference letters stating the duties corresponding to the correct NOC code.

I have heard that proving work as a freelancer is more difficult, you need a lot of documentation. My lawyer advised against claiming for it in my case since I had enough points from other work.

Thanks for the response!

Yes, all my work experience is under the skill level A. What exactly do you mean part time experience counts for less? When it comes to calculating number of foreign work experience years, I can still put 2 years if I have all the proof right?

Regarding freelancing, that's what I thought. I think I won't claim it either.

Yes from your message it seems you can claim 2 years as it is the total of your continuous work.

I mean for part time work experience you need double the time, like this https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=664&top=29

Late response but this internship was 30 hours a week. So technically, it's full-time as per CIC right? Don't know why I wrote part time initially.

Also, do both jobs need to be part of the same NOC? Both are under A but the internship is slightly different in main duties so I would assume it would be a different NOC. Is that a problem?

Yes, 30 hours a week is full-time so there's no issue there.

I believe the different NOC is also fine if you can get a separate letter outlining the job duties, as you have already met the minimum requirement of one year of continuous full-time work in a single NOC (the one you listed as your primary NOC on your application). Counting work beyond that one year is more flexible.
