Question about my Peruvian girlfriend's passport request?

Hello,

This is somewhat complicated so I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. My Peruvian girlfriend of more than a year has had some trouble with immigration for some time now. She came to Vancouver several years ago with her sister, supported by her father (already had his PR). I'll get to the main thing, now...

She's had some problems for a year now. She had a Temporary Residence and when she submitted her files to renew them last yearish (along with her sister's), immigration claimed they never got them, despite recieving the sister's!

She is trying to get her PR. Her sister is already in the process of getting it (and has remained in Vancouver) and her father has been approved to sponsor her. She did her medical exam, police check etc. and the embassy in Lima has requested her passport. Last week she flew back to Lima for the first time in 2 years and just submitted her documents/passport yesterday to the embassy.

BUT, my girlfriend is VERY nervous, and is constantly worrying that she'll be rejected and won't be able to get back into Canada. I've heard that the embassy usually requests the passport to stamp it with a Visa, since she has a clean medical/police record, and seeing how the sister is already on her way to being approved, and the father is approved for sponsorship, I don't see why she would be rejected?

The main thing I'm worried about is that her medical exam is over a year old (just found out). Apparently it's past the expiry date but they never said anything (yet).

If all goes well, and the medical exam is not an issue, I'm just curious as to how long it might take since they have her passport. I don't understand everything that's going on and I'm worried she could get stuck there...

Please give me any advice :(

You say she has been in trouble with immigration and that CIC did not get her renewal application which implies she was out of status. Was she given a departure order?

The passport request is usually the last step but some embassies request them early in the process. If she took the medical exam in Canada and stayed in Canada throughout the application they will most likely extend it but I'm not sure how going back to Peru would effect this. When did she file her application with Mississauga?
