Question about last name change and CSQ

Hi everybody!! I got CSQ for my wife at the end of January and they use only her maiden name on it. We did the name change when we we got wed in Thailand. Now she's using my last name on her passport, id card, driving licence, bank account, etc.

My question is; will she be able to use my last name when she'll arrive in Quebec or will she has to go back to her maiden name for health insurance card, driving licence,etc.

No, Quebec does not accept marriage as a reason to change family name. You are correct, all her Quebec documents, driver's license, health card, etc. will remain with her maiden name on them.

Of course she can go through the "legal" process for a name change which I understand is prohibitively expensive.

Even if she had legally changed her last name in Thailand? So her pr card and federal document she will use her married last name and on her quebec document she will have to use her maiden name?

I have similar question. My CSQ was issued in my married name (from first marriage), can I change it after to my maiden name?

That's correct. Once Quebec has you in their system with your maiden name . . . it sticks.

I don't know about the reverse situation (getting divorced), a Quebec'er would not have changed from their maiden name in the first place, so there would be no need to revert back to another (original) name.

I'm a Canadian citizen. We (me and my wife, an international student) currently live in BC, but I'm thinking to mention Montreal as a possible destination on her in-land sponsorship application. I understand that we will have to obtain a CSQ in the process. To this end, I'll appreciate if any of you can address the following questions. Thanks in advance Smiley
1. How long it might take to get a CSQ from Quebec Immigration?
2. Can she (or us?) claim Quebec residency once she gets CSQ? How about medicare?
3. What are the possible benefits of landing in Quebec e.g., studies/scholarships?
4. Is it allowed to land in another province, in case we change our mind later on?

As far as I know, you will need CSQ to obtain your health insurance card, known as RAMQ. And also to sign up for french courses the immigration office provides for permanent residents. It is possible that CSQ will arrive in maiden name although you have legally changed your family name before. In this case, only thing you will need to do is add your legal name to “other name” section that appears in CSQ by “writing” to them. That’s the only way they accept. And wait for a few month you will obtain another CSQ with other name added. My pr card, drivers license, RAMQ is all my new family name that has legally changed, not maiden.

I recieved the CSQ for my wife too. Although they used er maiden name but in the "other name section", they put put her marital name that is her first name and my last name. So i will advise you write back to them if they didnt include the marital name
