Question about Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

HI Folks,

Am I able to apply for CCB for my two children even though I have not declare any income statement on CRA
We just landed in Canada around 3 weeks ago.

Yes but you will have to show your previous international family income. You must have landed with your children and must be settling permanently not a short landing. You can only receive CCB if children are in Canada minus short vacations.

Hi Kabayan, did you already apply? I already got the cheque for the GST/HST credit but not the CCB yet.

Didn’t you receive the ‘provincial benefit’ too? CCB, I gather, gets credited only on the 20th of every month.

We received both barring the CCB this month via a direct deposit.

@iamxty , not yet. How did you get the cheque for GST/HST credit ? Did you applied for it? According to the IRCC website , we don't need to file since it is automatically credited based on what you file on the tax return? Thanks.

Just received the Ontario Trillium benefit yesterday. CCB may be next week

I didn’t apply for the GST/HST credit. When you apply for the CCB, it will already be included if you qualify.

You need to show your income from previous year...eveb if its from outside Canada.

How soon after application did you receive the cheque? Was there any notice or emails after you applied? We applied last July, paper application, and until now we haven’t received even an update.

3 months is usual wait time. You won't receive updates. You will only be contacted if they require more information.

So, as usual, we didn't CCB thus far- it's been well over 3 months now. They had sent us a letter 4 weeks ago stating that we didn't meet residency requirements, notwithstanding that we're just landed immigrants. We replied to them with proof, and called them up who replied they will raise a request and action it ASAP.

Seems like the government function is another bureaucratic blackhole- appears that there are a gazillion complaints against the CRA on this issue !

we as family came back in july 2023. and i applied for ccb of my kid(canadian citizen) in january.

My question is: are we be getting the benfits from july 2023 or jan 2023 or from the date , the application gonna get approved?

What is your status? Your ability to collect CCB is dependent on your status not your child’s.
