Question #3 - IMM0008

Hi,

Little confused here. I'm trying to fill out IMM0008. My wife and I have 2 children who were both born in Sweden (I the sponsor am Canadian and my wife the applicant is Swedish). We have applied to get both my children there "proof of Canadian Citizenship Certificate" and should be both received by mid February. At that time I will get both the children Canadian passports.

Do I include the children in Question #3 along with other questions regarding dependants? As they are only Swedish citizens as of now, but by mid March will have dual passports and be Canadian citizens.

I will happily wait for more experienced views here, but my tuppence worth....

You are NOT sponsoring them for PR, so I don't think you should include them 'officially' in IMM0008. BUT, they are dependant. I personally would add a 'home made' appendix with all of their details as per IMM0008 where you explain that yes, they are dependant, but you are not sponsoring them (nor can you - you can't sponsor people who can be Canadian citizens in their own right) as they will soon be 'official' Canadian citizens - attach proof that you have applied for citizenship.

But as I say, happy to wait for more experienced posters on this........

Hi,

I have already received a letter from the Canadian Embassy Consular in Stockholm that states we have applied for both our children for the "proof of citizenship certificate" as it is mentioned to get this. It was not a problem and we received this in a couple days by mail.

Just not sure whether to add my children on IMM0008. I don't mind doing it, but just don't want to do anything incorrect that would slow down or delay processing times of our application.

From the guide:
Do not include the sponsor or family members that are already permanent residents or Canadian citizens. Individuals that will not be included in the undertaking should not be included in this total.


The children are already citizens and thus should not be included in question 3.

My children as of today are only Swedish citizens. Application for "Proof of citizenship certificate" is in process, but we have latter from Embassy stating this. By all means they won't receive Proof of Citizen Certificte till mid February and Canadian Passport by mid March. We must send application by Thursday of next week. This is the dilemma...

They are already citizens, they are just waiting for a piece of paper to confirm it. They are not listed in that question. You can submit proof that you have applied for their proof of citizenship.

Your children are considered citizens of Canada by birth (regardless of the status of their proof of citizenship) if one of you were a Canadian citizen at the time of your childrens birth provided that you were a naturalized Canadian or born in Canada yourself (and hadnt gotten citizenship only by virtue of being born to a canadian citizen i.e. your parents). Citizenship by descend ency is applicable up to 1 generation.

Ok guys Thanks. So In question #3 I put 1 (as application is for my Swedish wife only) and we do not include any dependants? As well, I should include the letter I received from the Swedish Embassy in Stockholm stating proof that we have applied for both our children for "Proof of citizenship certificate?

I have supporting documents so just confirmation for application is wanted.
