Query regarding sending Passport for Visitor visa

Hi, I have started the application for the Canadian visitor visa and am awaiting all documents so I can upload them and pay the visa fees.
My query is: After I upload and pay the fees, my application will go the Canadian Embassy. So when will they ask me to send my passport with the documents? The reason I am asking this is because I am also applying for a US B2 (visitor) visa and the interview is scheduled for 9th July, on which I will have to submit my passport to them for US visa stamping. So it will be unavailable for a few days.
Therefore if the Canadian consulate requests for my passport within that time, it will be unavailable and may cause a problem in obtaining the Canadian visa. Hence my query. When exactly should I complete the application for the Canadian visa?
Do Help!

I am applying to the Canadian consulate in Mumbai, India. But from what I hear, it is sent to the Embassy in New Delhi for stamping.

If you are applying online for Canadian TRV, then go ahead with application. Cause you will be submitting online, scanned copies of supporting documents. If your visa is approved, you will get an approval letter in your CIC account. And normally CIC allow 30 days to submit your original passport to VAC. So you have enough time to get your US visa stamped, and afterwards Canadian one.
