Hi Everyone,
My mom's PR application for Parents Grand Parents Program was submitted last year and last week I received a letter indicating we have to submit Police Clearance Certificate for her. Her home country is Bangladesh and she is currently residing in Canada for over 6 months. Their email used the following language:

"Police Certificate: The principal applicant and their dependent family member (if applicable) must provide police certificates from:
•Their current country of residence if they have resided there for 6 months or more, and
•The country where they have spent most of their adult life since the age of 18 (if different than current country of residence).
Your relative is required to obtain the police certificate from that country’s law enforcement authorities. Please send a copy of the original police certificate to this office as soon as they receive it."

My question is do I have to get her Police Clearance Certificate from both Canada and Bangladesh? (She has no dependent).

This forum has been really helpful in my journey to Canada. Thank you in advance!!

She would need one from Bangladesh.

I think one from Canada is not required. Generally IRCC can check this themselves and so wouldn't require a Canadian PCC - see https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/is-two-pcc-is-required-from-canada-and-india.520718/post-6404932 - but also note this exception applies only to Canada. If your mother were from Bangladesh and currently living in, e.g., India, for the past six months then she'd need one each from both (that is both Indian PCC and Bangladesh PCC) but since it's specifically Canada that's why she only has to get the one.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. I heard from a friend the same thing that Canadian PCC may not be required but no one is quite certain as the line they wrote is not quite clear. Can IRCC do this check themselves for people with Supervisa?

Thanks a lot!

Hopefully someone who has personal or professional experience can chime in. My understanding is that yes, what matters is that the person lives in Canada for that time. The nature of the status (visitor vs temp worker vs intl student vs etc..) normally doesn't matter to RCMP when they look into it on behalf of IRCC.
