Hi All,

If i qualify as QSW. And land in quebec.. after how many months will i get PR. And is there any time limit approx after which i am eligible to shift to any other province legally.

Regards,
Shahi

After getting CSQ from Quebec, you have to apply to the Federal authorities. They will issue PR visa and after landing you will get the PR card in one month. There are different views about the 'shifting' to other provinces, so can't comment on that.

Hi Charmeusse,

Thanks for ur reply. I see u have already got ur CSQ. i got a few queries:

What level of french have u done .. i mean from Alliance Franciase etc. or is French ur first language?
How long was the interview and what level of french do they expect?
After getting the CSQ approval, What is the validity period of it before we can land in quebec?

Regards,
Shahi

After getting CSQ approval, you apply to the Federal authorities for your PR. The processing times you can see here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02b-skilled-que.asp

As for shifting to another province... do you sign anything for CSQ that you are intending to settle in Quebec? If no, you can go any time. If yes, then you have to look at what you signed. If you said you intend to settle in Quebec, you have to interpret what that means. In my opinion it would be at least to land in the province and spend a couple of months looking for a job. If you can't find one, go. You just don't want to make it look like you lied to immigration about your intentions.

The interview was like 45 min in my case. It was mostly in French with some little English. I had DELF B1 as proof of french and from what I've heard elsewhere, that's the minimum they request. The CSQ is valid for 3 years after it was issued, it has very little practical use after landing (you're charged Quebec resident tuition at Quebec universities) but you must file for Federal within 1 year after obtaining CSQ.

Leon, there's indeed a declaration of intent to reside in Quebec to be signed when you apply for CSQ, but there's no repercussion if you find a job elsewhere and move out of Quebec. The only implication of obtaining CSQ is that you must land in Quebec. At least that's what I've been told by many immigrants and some of them are citizens by now.

Hello Guys thanks to u all for ur replys.

I m curious to know tht will my DELF B1 results do for French language proficiency or is TEF necessary??
I also heard tht landing in Quebec is required and after 2-3 months one can shift to the province where job is available..

Regards,
Shahi

@Shahi, my detailed interview experience is posted elsewhere, in the provincial forum, I think. Just search for it.

DELF and TEF are both valid now. At the time I applied I only had DELF A1 certification, and by the time of the interview, I was doing DELF B1 and my level of French was intermediate, at best. HTH.

Dear All

i have a question. is it necessary for a person to learn french before moving to Quebec? is it a requirement during the immigration process? or the person can learn french when he/she reaches Quebec?

You should start learning before you arrive to Quebec, it is very likely you will have an interview for CSQ and you can be sure this interview will be in French. If the officer isn't convinced of your French, he/she/it will not issue you a CSQ so you can't complete the process of PR and will ask you to apply again once you obtain the required level of French.

Looks like the first part of your post is answered well so I will answer the second part.

What I understand through my law firm is that all CSQ applicants sign an "Intent to reside in Quebec" which essentially means that you will have to land in Quebec and complete your formalities.

Further, you are expected to try your best to find a job in Quebec and do every possible thing to integrate successfully with the province.

However, if you are unsuccessful, you are allowed to move to a different province and settle. If I ever were to move out of the province, I would keep a record of all the online applications made to different companies, the responses recd by them, any interviews attended, the outcome of the interviews, etc.

That way, at a later stage if you do get questioned by the authorities you can show that you did try to find a job but you were unsuccessful and you found something in you field in a different province.

Hopefully this answers your 2nd question.

Good luck!

Is your profession among the "occupation in demand" list? I had no french language skills but had just started taking beginners lessons and attached the tuition recept and course registration with my application for CSQ.

Luckily I got an Interview waiver. Thank god I did not have to demonstrate my french language skills :P

If I were you, i'd enroll in french course and enclose the registration details. All they would like to know is that you are seriously persuing french and that you intend to learn the language which will help you adapt and integrate successfully with quebec.

Hope the above answers your question
