There is a 3-month waiting period. Hubby waited almost 3 months (we bought private insurance; $300 for 3 months). Did you directly ask the RAMQ about coverage when pregnant?

I'm 99% sure I read that somewhere in this forum. I don't have time to look for it now, but I will try to find it later. I 100% remember that it makes a big difference which day of the month you apply.

What's the difference between landed and COPR?

What is your status in Quebec?

If you're on a work permit, you should have RAMQ. I'm not sure if you have RAMQ under a student visa, though.

And yes. I think you need the COPR to apply for RAMQ.

We have RAMQ because we were on a work visa until we became PR. Not sure if there's waiting period transiting from work visa to PR on the RAMQ side of things.

Yes, my husband landed a few months ago...COPR is Confirmation of Permanent Residence, which is just that, a document confirming that you have been granted permanent residence, which you would receive before landing. Landed is when you have physically arrived in the country.

You will need the COPR (along with other documents) to make the application for RAMQ coverage. For new residents, there is a 3-month delay.

My wife is applying for permanent residence, application sent December 2013. She applying outland from the USA. We are already pretty far in the process -- I was approved for a sponsor in January and they asked a few weeks ago to send them the CSQ, so they seem to have started looking at the file at CPP-Ottawa.

My question is related to RAMQ. I understand that we need the COPR to apply for RAMQ, but is that it? She is already living in Montreal with me (student visa), will we need to re-cross the border and get something there, or is it sufficient to just send the COPR and the CSQ to apply for RAMQ? I'm hoping that we can just go to the Montreal office and show them the COPR rather than send it in -- they seem to want originals and it doesn't sound like something we should give up the only original of!

1-You will need to go to the port of entry (border) to complete the landing process, get COPR signed, passport stamped. You could land inside canada, but you need to call CIC to schedule for an officer to meet with you, which might take a while.

2-You actually need the passport, COPR and CSQ and $10.35 CAD. Also make sure your wife has a proof of adress (bills, lease etc...) or you could sign an affidavit attesting she leaves with you. Go to the montreal office, it is much faster, the whole process takes about 30mn (afternoons are less busy...trust me!).

One more question: to get the COPR signed and her passport stamped, I'm assuming we can cross at any border crossing into Quebec? ie. we can just drive down to New York, turn around and drive back in?

Yep... We went to Plattsburgh, did some shopping, crossed at Lacolle, and came home.
