I already got mine as a temporary worker... I will call them actually today and let you guys know how it goes. As far as I understand it, I will only have to inform them about my change of status and will then receive a notice for renewal once my current card is about to expire.

But ... yes, for a new subscription, you will have to wait about 3 months.. :(

so can we use old one even if we asked for new one?

From my point of view, as long as the old card is not expired and you informed RAMQ about the change in your status, you should be able to still use it. I will though call them today and ask those questions :) then I'll let you know.

:o

I honestly have no idea at all regarding what happens to the health card. The border agent told me I should get a new one, but I didn't get the time to go there yet, so no clue! :/

Hello Ali,

It might take up to 3-4 months for them to open your file. There's a service called eCAS which allows you to check the status of your application:
https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/authenticate.do?app=ecas
I am not sure though if it's available for mail applications. you can call and ask.
Recent residents took them anywhere from 8 to 18 months. It varies a lot. but the average, I would assume, is around 12-14 months (from the time they say they received your application as shown on eCAS).

Hope this helps.
All the best

Thanks a bunch
By the way is it possible to apply online?! I mailed the docs but the point is I did not find any other way to do so!
eCas does not return a response I guess it is only for those who submitted their files online initially
Anyway my file was handed in Sydney July 16th
I wait and see
But since I provided my credit card info for the fees and my account is not debited yet it means they have not initiated the file yet

Oh wow, I think I'm starting to become crazy :P For some reason, I totally forgot that I sent my file also by mail :P I mixed up work/study permits and visa applications with the PR application. You're totally right. You need to mail in your application to Sydney NS, and eventually you will be able to check your status on eCAS, also they will send an email to the email address you specified when your file is opened -- that very same date will be the first date to show up on your eCAS. The easiest thing to do is to check your eCAS using your UCI number and the other details.
It could take anywhere from a month to 3-4 months for them to open your file and send the email.

Hi
