I am planning to apply for the Quebec skilled worker. Could you please mention how is it affecting certain people.

In my case i do not have any french skills, But I pass all the other requirements (based on online evaluation). I am hasitating whether I should apply or not wtihout french skills. Please advice.

Hello amusa,
Did they withdraw the 390 cad from your account before or after sending the AOR? I sent my application on October 13, never heard back from them.
Thank you

Hi NewHome_Alberta,

Qualified Quebec immigration applicants who have training/experience in occupations that are considered in high-demand by the province of Quebec will have their immigration applications fast-tracked. Quebec's labour market is in need of applicants at all skills levels, from welders to laboratory technicians, to nurses, and aeronautical engineers. Applicants with training/experience in Quebec's in-demand occupations have the best employment prospects and will therefore receive priority processing in their CSQ applications.

Quebec Immigration has issued a "List of Preferred Areas of Training". As of October 14, 2009, qualified applicants who have received a diploma listed on this document in the past five years before submitting their application will receive priority processing.

You may also want to check http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/informations/news/news-2009/june2009.html

With regards to your french skills, You may possibly get a CSQ. The selection is done on a points-based assessment. If you meet the minimum points requirement without speaking French you may still be granted the CSQ. Fill out online assessment forms to find out if you qualify.

i am still confused about the "list of training"

for eample, i have a bachelor degree in software engineering but i also have a master degree in civil engineering, so if i am in that list? since i saw Civil Engineering Technology (DCS - 3 years), what does "DOS" mean? if i have master degree, does it mean i am over qualified?

thank you for those who answer my questions and hope you can give me official links for the explanation .

Hi CometoAlberta,

As far as I know, you will be given 16 points for your training in Civil Engineering Technology (DCS - 3 years). And you will acquire another 12 points for your Masteral Degree under Education grid.

Up to 28 points are awarded under the Training criterion of Quebec immigration on the basis of the following three subcategories:

-Schooling
-Quebec Diploma
-Areas of Training

You may want to check this link: www.canadavisa.com/quebec-immigration-education.html

Hi,

There are two lists of training: the 2009 List of preferred areas of training and the 2009 List of areas of training (see http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/immigrate-settle/permanent-workers/official-immigration-application/requirements-programs/list-preferred-backgrounds.html)

As far as I could ascertain, only certain diplomas will be given priority treatment and the majority of them are Quebec diplomas or equivalent. See the following (in french): http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/divers/tableau-synthese-domaines.pdf

My question is, does Quebec recognize US degrees as equivalent to their own (specifically Masters degrees in Computer Science)?

Thanks for any help.

Hi,

I think I found the answer to my question. Here's the link, in case anyone else is interested: http://www.form.services.micc.gouv.qc.ca/epi/pdf/en/diplome-americain.pdf

Seems it is equivalent

Thanks!

Hi sheena21,
Thank you for your reply. Does the experience have to match with the Training? I have a MBA and CS as my Under Grad with 5 years in Software Engineering.
What is your take, on my MBA being used as one of the selected training that they listed as List of Preferred Areas of Training?

Hi Sheena21,

I sent my application to the montreal address, which is the one everyone sends to for CSQ approval/denial. After thier decision is when you send it to country offices, in my case I would send it to Buffalo for the permanent residency application.

NewHomeAlberta,

I am not sure if I can fully answer your question but I can tell you that I have a bachelors in Biochemistry(which is amongst the preferred areas of training). I got the degree from a US university, and I am currently pursuing a masters in environmental science. I applied for CSQ after october 14, and so far my application is being processed as one of the areas of preferred trainings.
Hope that helps a bit.

Amina
