Thanks Thomas, thats exactly what I am trying to do here, what is it that people thought/thinking of before applying - I too am about to apply, and I am keen to understand the job scenario, risks of unemployedness, cost of living and associated savings, and how many of us know how much. OURS AND OUR KIDS' FUTURE DEPENDS ON THAT!

Unfortunately, as I read on an earlier post, we do not have any/many feedback at all from people who have landed. So we do not get to know how smooth sailing (or not) has it been, and what's there in store for us - good, bad, ugly.

That's the reason why I wanted to dig deeper, so that we are mentally prepared for the challenges, if any. Do let me know if you still think its unjustified to discuss it here - will move on then.

Regards,

Thanks Raph for starting this topic area - and thanks Vibez_well & Geribubaboy for your replies so far.

I have a few questions for all of us, this is in no way to discourage any of us, please do not get me wrong here...

Weather: As much as I know, winters are very chilly with lots of snow - not very comfortable when you are not used to sub-zero temperature, that too for months together. Of course we can acclimatise, but should take a while...

See these: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/USMO0602 and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal#Climate

Jobs: Are there really enough for everyone? Are we sure it is not a case of "grass is greener..."? Read these: http://news.yahoo.com/canada-unemployment-rate-rises-august-142429507.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_provinces_by_unemployment_rate

Why do people love leaving their families (although initially), take a HUGE risk of not having a job, and then start hunting of their own? What if they do NOT get anything better than what they are currently doing?

I have been reading this thread religiously for the last month, and have seen Engineers, MBAs, Nurses, Doctors, Market Researchers and people from so many professions applying, most of them 30+ and mature professionals - am sure all of them are well settled in their respective countries/professions.

Savings: If you start backwards monthly, you get a decent accomodation at CAD 500 upwards, keeping aside your basic amenities costs at CAD 1500, savings of CAD 1000, misc expenses at another couple of grands, are you sure you will you get CAD 50000 yearly or above?

Why are we then going for it? Is it really worth it? Are we sure we will not end up in a 1BHK apartment amongst tall skyscrapers, struggling to make ends meet? Also consider the cultural differences that you, your spouse and your kid(s) will have to go through ... are we sure we will not be treated as second class citizens for life?

Look forward to an insightful and constructive discussion here.

Regards,
My friends,

I think Immigration from one country to another is a challenge. Some can overcome it some can't.

I know many who had immigrated to Canada and they returned back to their home country, this reason that they returned back to their country was that they couldn't find that life that they had imagined of. I think we should keep our expectation to its minimum level and we should go their with this attitude that we are starting a new life.

That is true that many of us would face many difficulties till we get settled but why don't we take it in positive way that our future and future of our children would be the brightest in the world.

I believe that weather, food, customs... should be the hurdle to stop us from immigration to such a wonderful country otherwise we still live a life.

I still think that we should be optimistic and positive otherwise the consequence of above mentioned people are waiting for us just outside the door.

Good luck

well, i honestly dont know. but your friend's timeline sounds too good to be true ! hope he ddnt fool you with the date. anyways, its becoming increasingly hard to compare timelines with one another because they seem to have some 'unknown' criteria to shortlist and prioritise.

so you gotta wait it out till you hear from them. no other way to know.

within 1 month she receivd her perm 124 and on the same week she received her interview sked for nov.16 @ HK..

AOT = nurse from Phils.

actually i am quite worried since i am the one who taught her on the process of application.. our documents are quite identical we just had a slight difference like.. In i finished my masters in nursing, I recieved completion of A1 course while hers is only certificate of attendance., also i sent my IELTS and letter from universities using english as instruction...

Please answer my questions..

1. Is there a possibility that they will give me points for my master's? i guess in the table for diploma in Phils., masters degree has no points
2. how long should i wait for the interview after AOR?
3. based on my computation.. our score is 53 points, if ever granted with scores for my masters " i hope they will waive my interview" LOL quite ambitious! hahahha

honestly, i am wondering why she got her interview call before me...huhuhuh

Dear All,,

I am new to this quebec forum. I have already applied under FSW1- 0231 NOC, which seems needed a huge time to process.

SO i planned to apply under QSW and ask devid cochen to be my lawer. Just to know,,

Am i eligible to apply for both FSW1 and QSW process at the same time ?

Can i move after 6 months to ontario to be setteled there?

for french is it manditory for TEF exam? as Devid cochen said (Applicants applying under the Quebec Skilled Worker category should be willing/able to gain a HIGH BEGINNER level of proficiency in the French language - understanding and speaking (not reading or writing).)

Kindly advice seniors. plssssssssss
