Alright so i have been going through alot of reading about the shipping part but i am still puzzled about couple of points which I am sure several others will wonder about too so here are the questions:

1- Do i have to catalog every single piece i am taking with me including studio cables and souvenirs ?
2- what if i don't have receipt for every item i owned for years, can i not take them with me ?
3- is it possible to ship my stuff before i leave leb since sea freight shipping will take about 5 weeks (for sure i will land weeks before the shipment arrives to canada)

thats all that i can think of for now, i hope someone knows the answers.

When r u going to submit ur passport? Let me know how much time it will take u, i'm sure vfs office knows. I'm going to leb in few days to submit the docs, not planning to stay long.

Congratulations guys!
I think better to ship your stuff , buying all from zero will be costly , but regarding electricity you can ship only 110- 220 others will need transformer but not for Washing machines.
The cost depends to the countries for all your furniture a 20 feet will be enough for a villa.
The time 8 weeks maximum.
Any idea about shipping cars ???i heard it is a little bit complicated.

concerning the 110 220 volts issue an advice ( being an electrical proffessional) if u decide to buy transformers(220/110 or vice versa) make sure that u buy ones that support the necessary load,ya3ni , bokra btjibo transformateur zghir w btmasho 3leh shi 10 2ota3 w bta3mlo 7ari2a bl beit..always check the temperature of any electrical object,heat is dangerous ...tc dibab

I am yet to receive the request to do the medicals ... but ... should i pay my landing fees already? if so, how and where? till when i can delay paying the landing fees?

They will send you request for landing fees, usually in abu dhabi they send it with passport request and they ask for new police certificate

for sure it is possible to ship your stuff before boarding from Lebanon, but are you sure it will take only 5 weeks?
-how much it will cost the door to door shipment?
-does my furniture fit there? for example as I read most bed rooms have wall closet
-what about the electric equipment 110-220v issue

sorry took long to reply , i am currently going all over the place figuring out stuff, preparing , researching etc.. where the hell is Shiva?, i could use the extra 6 hands hehe

alright i cant answer all your questions, but here is what i done, i found a local freight shipping company and reserved 1.5 cubic meters (might expand to 2m)
the price was very reasonable in comparison to air shipping (per KG) but what i found inconvenient was that I have to provide the box (hire a time sucking carpenter) and i will have to transport both box and the items destined for shipping (hire movers/breakers + pickup truck) since that company doesn provide those services.

-you can fit as much as you want furniture, of course at the price of how much the total volume reserved is, you can even rent an entire container for yourself only if needed but that would be around 4 digits worth of money.

-unless your furniture is Vintage or high quality or even handmade then it is really not worth shipping them, you can get great deals at Wallmart and the likes, or even pay a little extra and get self-put-together Ikea products a.k.a *vite-fait* and they will still be a whole lot cheaper than the local cheap quality products, same thing for clothing btw.

-as far as electric/electronic appliances go someone already answered about the voltages but i would like to add that it is the type of sockets that you should worry about and you can actually get cheap plug converters around Dora area, get a dozen of those will cost less than 10$

- (+) as far as this shipping company goes door-to-door is either an extra service or dealt with by a different company and i haven't looked into that because my friends will be using their cars to take care of port-to-door .

and please we do need people to add more questions on this thread and others to supply answers, thats the main purpose of why this thread was created

I will be going on monday first thing in the morning and so far it seems that ETA is for a few days only but i'd hold off on that number since it was not confirmed by an official source, if you can, i will be able to give you a solid confirmation only after i pick up my passport back then the ETA will be clearer for you.

Lams you have no idea how much m happy for both of you and congratulate you on holding on all that time, I been through that situation before but didnt survive to the finish line due to similar distance.

so far it looks like that I will be going on the 1st of april , found a flight that is rated 10/10 , best price (750) , shortest hours 13h30m) and 1 stop (1h30m), I never use local flight brokers btw, they charge a whole lot more and toss you on 4/10 rated flights with at least 2 stops. if you are interested about having a flight buddy then let me know, i will buy us the drinks for 13h just shhhh dont tell the wife

I suggest take 1 long stop in London for example, you can stay for 48 hours, transit visa, you will automatic grant it if you have visa to usa or Canada

enjoy 2 days because once you land in Canada you cant obtain any visa to any country before you continue 1 year

He can apply to the US once he lands and get it for 10 years, using the COPR, trust me on this one

I'm leaving to lebanon on monday and i will arrive on tuesday, submit my docs on wednesday and wait for the passport so i come back immediately, all my belongings are already here. I hope it doesn't take more than a week. See you in Gatineau nshalla
