i completed a 4 year apprenticeship in an engineering company
this was 4 years of training as a junior employee to eventually become an engineer
1st question - is this apprenticeship counted as 4 years education or NOT

also whilst doing this apprenticeship, i attended college 1 day a week for 2 years to attain a Certificate in Mechanical & Production Engineering
2nd question - as this is part time, as far as i know it would take one year ful time to complete - can i therefore claim this as a years education

as i attained this certificate, it allowed me to then study for my Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mech & Prod engineering. This also took 2 years part time, so would have been 1 year full time

3rd question - can i claim 1 year education for this also

nowadays you can do an HNC in 1 year full time, so does that mean that as my final qualification is an HNC that i can only claim 1 year, even though the way i done it would have probably been 2 years full time back in the 80's

i do so hope you can help

1. No.
2. No, unless that's thru a recognised 'university'.
3. No.

Bottomline: The CIC points calc for edn is based on:
-20 points, if u have 10+2+3=15 yrs. -Graduation
-22 points, if u have 10+2+3+1=16 yrs. -Technical quals
-25 points, if u have 10+2+3+2=17 yrs. -Post Grad

-CIC accepts 10+2=12 yrs. as Secondary School completion. In which case u get 5 points.
-After which if u have a 1-yr's Trade Diploma u get 12 points.
-If that was 2-yrs u get 15.
-Beyond which unless u have a degree u stand lacking.

qorax
thanks again for your response
i understand that i have 11 years school education
however i have a question

what exactly does my 4 year apprenticeship PLUS my National Cetificate in Engineering(2 years part time) PLUS my Higher National Certificate (2 years part time) give me in total
surely all this is worth more that a 1 year trade diploma

I'd think '0', unless u had completed 12-yrs of schooling... in which case u could get 15.

hi qorax
further to my previous posts, i have been advised from another experienced "guru" on an immigration forum that as my 4 year apprenticeship is classed as on the job training, then this would count as 4 extra years of education
anyything to add?
thanks

Jim I totally agree with Qorax. Lets say Doctors do residency 4 / 5 or whatever years, that is like Apprentice Ship (you can compare it), and we dont get points for that, as far as I think.

Education means attending classes, credits hours etc etc. Apprentice ship is Training.

So here is my advice, If you think that you would be elligible for points, apply. Cause applying and getting rejected is better than NEVER applying and never knowing, you will always be wondering if you could have made it... My thoughts off course, Provided you can afford it financially and emotionally.

Regards

thanks devilhimselff
surely my 4 years apprenticeship combined with my HNC (higher national certificate) in engineering done over 4 years at college 1 day week must be worth something? (this is attending classes for 4 years)

with regards to applying to see how i get on, this is a good idea, but with regards to an application, if i applied thinking i had say 72 points, and then the visa office calculated that i had less, how quick would this happen?
