Proof of intention to move to Canada

I tried searching for this question and got a few answers like job offer, school offer or rental agreement. However, due to long processing times of over a year and planning ahead what employer would give a job offer a year in advance? I won't be going to school because I'll be getting my PhD in a year, and renting a place a year in advance would be silly.

what other proof of intention to move to Canada can there be? Surely paying $1000 to apply is intention enough?

My in-laws currently live in Canada so would a letter from them expressing their knowledge that we've been saying we're going to move to Canada for the last few years once my PhD is done be helpful?
Could I get my in-laws to draft a rental agreement for their house as if we would go and live there even if we wont be?
I'm struggling to think of anything else and can't find much official guidance on the website.

thanks

Well, you're supposed to apply close to when you are actually moving. There's a good chance the application will be faster than a year. That said, if you still want to apply now, you can show things like online job searches and rental planning. You don't need an actual job offer and lease. Just outline a plan for them.

Aren't you from the UK? If so, you should expect processing times of less than a year.

Proof of intention to move to Canada?

- Who have you spoken to about your plans and will they write a letter and sign it saying how they know you, how long you have been planning etc.
- How many trips have you made to Canada recently and where did you go, what contacts, relatives etc
- Where is your pre-move plan / to do list, do you have one?
- Proof of membership of forums like this one with postings you have made?
- Do you have a Canadian bank account yet?
- Outline your broad plans for return, timescale, what will you do, where do you want to live, why
- Have you told your relatives, will they say this in writing?

Just a few ideas. I included all of these in my 'prove you will return to Canada'. I know it seems a crazy question.....

We wrote about half a page explaining why we wanted to move to Canada (we want to raise our children there, quality of life, etc) and what we had done up until that point. Which was actually pretty minimal. We had asked a moving company for an offer to get an idea of prices, looked into the job market, told our families (obviously), and wrote that we would be staying with friends including their names when we first landed. We also detailed our plans once we landed

Thanks for the advice everyone. Would you recommend waiting a while to apply then I'm just going off what the processing times say on the website but would some countries get through quicker or something? We are in the UK. Some people's timelines are saying 2 or 3 months but others longer. Although waiting 6 months won't actually give me any more proof than I already have that we want to move.

Is the person being sponsored a British citizen?

If so, then your spousal sponsorship application (once assess for Sponsor Approval by CPC Mississauga) would then go on to either London or Ottawa. Please see the spreadsheet in my signature line for peoples 'real world' experience of current and historic processing times for spousal sponsorships via these offices. You will see that 'start to finish' processing times for London can be 6 - 10 months and for Ottawa can be 3 - 4 months. You cannot ask for nor can you influence where they send it after sponsor assessment. For my own application, it took almost exactly six months from submission of the pack to receipt of CoPR. I think the 'averages' quoted on the CIC websites are skewed to a longer time by the more complicated and incomplete applications.

That is why this spreadsheet is kept - to allow people like yourself to see rweal world case by case timescales and experience 9 hopefully you will also want to participate once you have applied).

Gather the proof you have (or can easily get hold of), write your 1 - 2 page attachment explaining you preparations and plans and crack on with submission IMHO! If they want more 'proof' they will ask for it (but best to avoid them having to ask for stuff if it can be avoided as it will add 3 / 4 weeks onto your processing time every time they ask for something).

That's great thanks. I'll definitely add my own timelines once applied. And yes I'm the Brit and my wife is Canadian.

We are the other way around (I'm Canadian, my wife British), but otherwise sounds similar situation.

You might also be well advised to sign up to the British Expats forum - there is an excellent Canada forum (many people on here are also on this other forum).

Check it out here:

Lots of help on there, happy to help further if I can.....

Question to all of you on the post: did you get your visa approved with evidences of intention to return to Canada?

I'm trying to have an idea of the possible outcome we could get. I'm Canadian, we're living in Australia but we met in Canada 10 years ago. We have a baby hence we think it's time to be closer to family...Wondering what are the odds to apply from overseas even if we provide evidence of intentions (future home, future jobs, planning of moving to Canada with logistics, flights research, creche, etc. etc., family letters, etc. etc.).

Once PR is granted, is there any condition to stay and live in Canada (apart to apply for Canadian citizenship)?

Many thanks!
