My son is 3 months old and was born in Pakistan. I am in Canada while both my wife and my son are currently in Pakistan. My wife is undergoing spousal sponsorship and just recently completed her medical, I'm expecting her application will be completed in the next 6 months.

My son's application process I haven't started, I am a citizen so I now he can't be added on to my wife's PR application and will need to get proof of citizenship. I have a few questions, especially for those who's child was born in Pakistan.

1. What ID documents did you send with your proof of citizenship application? My son has nothing as of right now with his photo on it, not sure what documents to get.
2. The Proof of citizenship processing time is 17 months right now, I cannot wait that long and since my wife's PR application will likely be processed in the next few months, she will need to arrive in Canada, we can't leave our son alone there so what are my options here?
3. further to above, I've heard you can apply for the Canadian passport and proof of citizenship application at the same time? anyone familiar with the process? there is really not much information online about this.

4. Did you apply online, paper, or at the embassy abroad?

Any help is much much appreciated!

Hello,

did you already start the process for your son? I am also looking for help from people who have applied for passport and citizenship simultaneously. Were you able to apply together?

You can contact the consular section of the Canadian High Commission in Islamabad by email…..let them know and they can hopefully guide you

your wife, her family etc can help her to get B form for your baby and then get baby’s Pakistani passport so baby can have ID and a travel document…..use those to apply for proof of citizenship fir baby as well as a LVP(limited validity passport)

the consular section won’t do much for your wife but they can/will help your baby as baby is Canadian too.

contact them asap……ofcourse you can let them know that baby’s mom is being sponsored….

Hello,

Actually already done! I applied for my son's citizenship certificate on June 1 and it arrived by June 15, only two weeks! No need to apply for citizenship and passport simultaneously. I guess those incredibly long processing times the website claims are only for adults and not children. However, I did apply for urgent processing (no ticket booked, just said a few things like political instability in Pakistan and poor health care...), even urgent processing on the website said 6 months but the certificate was at the door in 2 weeks!

I recently renewed my son’s passport from CHC-Islamabad and it took only 2-3 weeks. No issues at all.
