hello everyone i am a canadian citizen i was born and raised in canada but i am also a Lebanese citizen. i came to lebanon this summer to have my wedding but when me and my husband went to ektob elkteb we discovered errors on my lebanese passport and on the tuzkara. these errors are the place of birth and the date of birth which would create conflict with my canadian passport if we were to continue on with my Lebanese passport. we asked many government officials and they told us it would take years to fix the mistakes on my leb passport and that we can go on with our marriage license using my canadian passport as a form of ID which required getting a record check from canada proving that i am not currently married or have been. and we sent that paper to the lebanese government to get permission to use my canadian passport and we got the permission and went to the religious courts and katabna lkteb but when we went to go sabet eljawez in the nufoos they told us that there is no way we can do that because we are lebanese and i must use my lebanese ID not canadian but i dont understand how we got the permission to do so and after everything they say that its not possible? and im worried that redoing my papers with my tuzkara will effect the application for my husband to go to canada due to the conflicts on the 2 passports. do you have any insight on what can be done in our situation or anything that may help me for that matter because i am lost and i dont know what to do at this point. we asked a lawyer here and he told us to go to cyprys and have a civil marriage so my other question is how will that effect the process of my paperwork for canada will it make a difference make it harder...? easier?? help please :(

Getting married somewhere else won't hurt your chances. It's best if lots of relatives and friends are in attendance, though, so it doesn't look fake. The visa officers expect to see a traditional wedding from Muslim couples, so make it as traditional as you can.
Start the process to get your Lebanese passport changed now. Even if it takes years, you will eventually need both passports to be the same.
Use your Canadian passport for the immigration process. If the visa officer finds out that your date and place of birth don't match on the two passports, he/she may become suspicious and start to question your identity.

we did everything right so far we have all the pictures together the messages and family outings we had an engagement party and a wedding party so we have all the reciepts and everything from where we had the wedding but because i was only here for a certain amount of time we couldnt wait until we signed our marriage license we had to have the wedding before all of that and when we finally got the permission from here that i can use my canadian passport they went and changed it and said that i couldnt do it any more. i am going to fix my passport but that has to be done when i go back to canada because i need to get my birth certificate and send it somewhere and higher an attorney. and now they are telling us that for my husband to be able to go to cyprus he needs a record check from the bank and has to have a minimun of 6000 dollars to be able to get the visa to go there. are there any other places that would conduct a civil marriage and have it recognized in lebanon? and also i read in an earlier thread that if we have a civil marriage i cant be registered as his wife or something? and that they will conduct an interview with my husband and ask why havetn been registered yet. i want to get all the information about the civil marriage thing before i go through with it because i dont want to cause any more problems that already have..

OK, I don't know much about Lebanon, but is it possible that when they told you you couldn't use your Canadian passport after some other official told you that you could, that they were just looking for a bribe? Situations like this mean 'give me a bribe' in Nigeria, and where I lived in China too, so maybe that's all you need here as well?

well i think my family had offered this guy one but hes being a jerk because it makes no sense that they wouldnt let me use my canadian passport. they said its because my parents are lebanese that i should use my lebanese ID which is what we are trying to avoid. im going down to the canadian embassy tommorow morning to see what my rights are as a canadian citizen here in lebanon!
