As mentioned go online . You have to work the MINIMUM hours to get mat leave . If you’re short an hour , half and hour , they will deny any benefits. I’ll reiterate if your shorts hours the claim is not processed. There’s NO H&C in the ESDC . Those required hours are the law . So if you’re short hours I’d be pulling extra shifts to get the required hours . Many of my co workers worked double shifts right up to their due date to get their maximum amount

When does your WP expire and when is your due date? Do you have spouse or common law partner and if so what is their status? If temporary status when does it expire?
The other big issue is that maternity leave does not guarantee status in Canada. If your WP expires before you have your baby or while you are on maternity leave you will go out of status. You can try to change your status to visitor but you will lose healthcare access (the status or a spouse or common law partner could change this). You can still receive your mat leave payments if you can’t remain in Canada.
WP will expire by july 2025,my due date will be this year September. My partner has the same WP status as me.
You can still go ahead , make a claim . Estimated due date , if that changes you can just go call EI and update it . That’s important, because the due date will affect when the payments start . In the end it’ll depend upon that ROE issued and how many insurable hours you’ve worked and how much you made to start the payments .
Do a rough calculation on how many hours you’ve worked up to now , and then how many you’ll need . I’d always suggest you rack up the hours now versus later since you don’t know how you’ll be feeling later on .
To get AHCIP and have health coverage you must remain in Alberta for the full first 12 months. Your child will also need to live in Alberta for their first year to qualify for healthcare unless you move provinces and then that gets slightly complicated to explain here but not impossible. Any subsequent year in Alberta you have to spend 6 out of 12 months in Alberta to qualify for provincial healthcare.
Most jobs do not do too off but because you will earn less than you do when you work but have increased expenses most people need to save money in preparation for maternity leave. Would also start putting your name down to get a spot in daycare if you plan to return to work whenever you want/need to return to work. It can be very difficult to find a daycare spot and also an affordable.e daycare spot. Most put down their name on a waitlist when still pregnant or at least when their child is extremely young.
You may want to apply for PR in August when I assume your partner has 1 year of Canadian work experience if you have already been working for 6 months. The cut-off to get selected for PR is very high at the moment and there are many people waiting to get selected for PR who would have easily qualified a few years ago. Many have been waited to get selected for over a year. Unless you meet some very specific requirements would activate it taking longer to get PR. Have you looked at your anticipated CRS score and what program you want to apply for. What field do you and your spouse work in? These days you need to be very strategic when it comes to applying for PR.
We will apply thru Alberta PNP, my partner and I is working as room attendant both in the hotel.
As per checking my due date will be August last week,it means I will take my maternity leave too. I will put my application for PR on August 1st week. Can my mat leave affect my application?Thank you.
