Hello,

So I went to Pakistan to visit my husband. I'm now 5 months pregnant and we also applied for a visit visa for him. I called the MP and the case worker there said it will take around 10 months more for the processing to complete (although I applied in November 2011). I'm now going to meet the MP after the holidays because I need to make sure my husband gets here in time to see our baby being born, I can't let that moment just go by without him here with me. What do you guys suggest I say to the MP and what documents should I bring with me?

Also for all people who applied in 2011, can you tell me how much of you guys heard back at all? I know that 2012 cases mostly heard back for a RePCC and Remed...I just want to gather some stats to tell the mp to urge CIC to take a look at the old cases instead of backlogging them.

Anyone else went to their MP? What did you ask for and how was your experience

MPs can't influence the decision on a file or speed up processing. All they can really do is to help inquire on the status of your applications. So I don't think there will be much your MP can do apart from telling you the status of your file.

the MP can help (a little) but from what I understand, they will only get involved if your timeline exceeds what is listed in CIC's website. The timeline for Pakistan is currently 32 months. If you applied in November 2011, then you are currently at 25 months and under what they consider "normal". You would need to wait at least another 7 months before the MP could take any action.

Unfortunately, telling CIC than you are about the give birth will not make much of an impact on your timeline. It is actually a pretty common request they get.

additionally I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you that if you want your husband present during the birth than go and have the baby there. I know it does not seem fair, but I've never seen CIC make an exception. Think about this, I have been diagonized with a tumour, and I need surgery ASAP, waiting on my MRI now, I have no family in Canada, do you think they will speed up my application so that my husband can be here with me during and after surgery? As sad as it is, I know that nothing can speed up the process so I am making the best of what resources I have available.
That would have been fine by me, but my doctor told me not to travel as soon as I cross my fifth month...so I can't do that. My original timeline when I applied was 26 months. We planned it so he could be present for the birth but now at 32 months...seriously how long can we keep putting our life on hold...they keep increasing the processing time every 2 months.

Those timelines are just rough estimates and averages. It is not a good idea to make plans around the timelines that CIC gives since they change all the time and again, are just estimates. I'm sorry to hear that it sounds like your husband may not be able to make it to see the birth of his child. They should really look at making it easier to visit during the sponsorship process for non-visa exempt nationals. But it is what it is I'm afraid. Hang in there.

My question is why is Ottawa handling your file? Or at least, that is what is stated in your signature.

Ottawa is supposedly handling my file because they are handling the overflow from the Visa office in Islamabad Pakistan.

well, that could also be part of the hold up. Not only are they handling overflow from Pakistan, likely they are handling other countries overflows from the previous strike and now Ottawa was also trying to fast track those Phillipine applications due to the hurricane.

I don't think you are going to find any relief from your MP, but I wish you luck in trying. As Keesio, I think it was, stated; they can really only help with an application when it has passed by the 'dates' listed on CIC website by a 'signifigant' amount of time. In theory, you are still well within the limits of what they state is the timelines for Pakistan.

Try to have a great holiday and good luck!

salam alaikom Wyz. I found this website which gives some info on why it takes long time for the sponsorship.

https://sites.google.com/site/islamabadchctimelines/

have you ordered your notes yet? You may get some valuable information from getting the notes. At least by now the notes should state weather your husband needs an interview (which according to the info in the above link states that an interview adds another year to processing time). Inchallah get the notes, and with them, the MP can make specific case inquiry.

That's very helpful!! I hope my hubby doesn't go in the interview queue since its both of ours first marriage and everything is straighforward although if he does, we can deal with that too InshaAllah.

Thanks!
