Hello everyone!! Im visiting my husband to canada while my PR is still in process.i was issued 1year multiple entry visa which will expire in OCt2016.. Now im pregnant, currently in edmonton.we got private insurance for me but it doesnot cover normal pregnancy and all visits to doctor.what is the best thing to do?can i get delivery free of charges if my PR wont arrive till delivery!! My husband has full time permanent job and there is some health insurance at his work which covers for wife also but not sure about it..

I thought if one spouse is in the AHCIP, the other visiting spouse (who is waiting for PR status) can be added..

Unfortunately, there is no private insurance in Canada which covers the normal pregnancy (no follow-ups or regular visit), but complications only. However, if your husband has a full-time job and insurance you are covered by as his spouse.

Yes thank u all..i signed up for AHIP which is for 6mon and i can extend it for further 90days..lets hope my immigration process is complete till then!!

Hi I was wondering what are the requirements to register spouse for the AHCIP?

if the sponsor is already having the Alberta health card, can the sponsor add the spouse while we are waiting for the PR process?

Yes u can sign up for ur wife..u can add ur wife in ur dependants,u jst have to call health services and they will tel u to go to near by registry office and take 2 piece of identification of ur wife and ur health card.they will fill up form and u will have it in a week by mail..they will add her for 6mon since the day of entry in canada and than if it expires u can extend it further if ur wife has extension on visit visa( in my case i got extension so they gave it to me for another 6month)

Hey thanks for the help, I added my wife as a dependent for the alberta health care for 6 months from the day she entered canada, Also they told me in the registry that if she enters canada again and you want to extend the AHCIP you would need to get the Visitor Record document when she enters and the second time will be the last time renewal.

Just in case if someone is looking for this answer here.

for temporary visa holders, the health card validity is 6 months but what about permanent residents?

Wow....what a great relief.

I am PR OF Alberta and having Health card. My wife is on visitor visa ...does she can be covered under mine until she is having her valid visit visa ? Her PR application is already under process. Let me know...Does her all health care will be covered while she hold valid card ? Let me know..ASAP
