Pregnancy issue

Hello CV members,
Hope you're all doing well.

We have landed a couple of weeks ago in Toronto. Unfortunately, we cannot stay here permanently as of now. We're going back in a week or so and planning to come back in May. We wanted to register with OHIP before leaving, but due to full schedule of a registrar, we couldn't make an appointment.

We're currently expecting a baby (24th week of pregnancy) and do not know how to sort this issue out. Obviously, paying for delivery is the least preferred option for us, since we wont be residents of Ontario for full 3 month at the time of delivery. A more or less affordable option is Midwife service Ontario. But before leaning towards this option we'd like to see if there are any better options out there?

Can we go to another province which offers healthcare coverage from day one? Will there be any consequences if we decide to move back to Ontario after giving birth?

If for some reason the baby will be born outside of Canada, how difficult would it be to sponsor her? How soon can she get a PR status?

There are lots of questions in our head and would appreciate your help regarding our situation.

if you are only doing a soft landing you don't qualify for ohip yet. How long are you planning on staying out of the country? If you give birth in a province that gives you health care right away you must live there for at least 6 months (some provinces say you have to show intent to settle there) or you could have to repay all costs. At this point in your pregnancy it will most likely be impossible to secure a midwife. You can try to secure a trp or trv for your baby if they are born in another country (easier if US born baby) and then sponsor them but your child would not have health care coverage until they become a PR.

Staying out of Canada as long as we receive our PR cards by mail. So basically from 1 to 2 months...

I read about Midwife service not being available if there's not enough time. This leaves us with either getting a private insurance or go to Alberta and commit living there for at least 6 months or have the delivery outside of Canada.

Okay... Now we'd like to figure out the following:

1) How much does a private insurance cost? Is it expensive for pregnants?
2) If the baby is born outside of canaCa, how much proof of funds required to show? How soon the baby can become PR?

Private insurance does not exist for pregnancy/delivery related costs, if you're already pregnant.
Why would an insurance company want to give a policy out where it's guaranteed to be tons of costs for them? Insurance policies only cover unexpected or emergency costs.

Proof of funds is not required.
However at least 1 parent must be living in Canada in order to sponsor the child for PR. The child could only come to Canada during the sponsorship process if they can come as a visitor (so will need eTA or TRV).

Ah... So the cost of delivery can be any amount depending on complexity of procedures...

Is TRV process shorter than PR process for a newborn?

Yes trv and trp is shorter process but no guarantees that you will receive it. Although going to a province that provides healthcare immediately like Alberta is an option I would suggest you plan on staying for more then 6 months. You will have to look at the wording carefully but the provinces are aware that people land to give birth then move. In some provinces they specify that you need to show intent to settle in that province. Living in Alberta without working for 6 months and then moving will likely be more expensive then paying for a delivery in Ontario.
