Hi Folks,

I am planning on withdrawing my citizenship application and getting the Australian PR since this country will never give me citizenship.

Here is my Timeline

Applied June 2012
RQ March 2013
Notice to prepare Dec 23 2013

Nothing as of yet.

How do you go about withdrawing the citizenship application in Canada?

Any recommendations on a good lawyer to start the australian PR process? I have more than 12 years of solid experience in Information Technology in a very in demand filed, so I am least worried about not finding a job and all that jazz here.

Appreciate your input here.

Jake

Of course it's your choice how to proceed but, unless you have more information regarding your file that you're not sharing here, it's not accurate to say that Canada "will never give you citizenship." Given what you've shared, I would guess that they are probably planning on giving you citizenship in the next 6 months or so.

I recommend the far more prosaic approach of ordering your ATIP for physical files and electronic files and also contacting your MP. If you want, you could also contact the press. Journalists are always interested in (dramatic) stories of immigrants giving up on Canada due to long wait times.

Your ATIP should say whether your RQ was retriaged under OB407D. If it was (which I suspect it was due to your receipt of CIT 521), then your case will probably move forward shortly.

But, if you're itching to move as far away from Canada as possible, tired of the winters, and hoping to spend a fair amount on relocating and lawyer's fees, that's your call.

Hi eileenf,

I have ordered my ATIP request various times, it shows triaged under OB407D?

What does this triagging even mean? Does it really carry any significance?

No, purpose of moving away from Canada has nothing to do with the winters. Its only because of the citizenship delay, I feel that I have been a victim of racial profiling and dont get the feeling of belongingness here. Maybe I am taking it too strongly?

But do you guys think this is a fair country??

Regards,

Jake.

Jake. Contact me via PM if you are interested in speaking to a reporter.

As a 2011 applicant and 2012 RQ recipient who got citizenship less than two months ago, I understand the feeling of not being welcome due to delays and RQs. One of the sad things about these unexplained delays is that they show immigrants a bad side of Canada. Not a place of welcome. Not a place of transparency. Not a place of respect. I believe Canada is better than this, but I can't tell you which Canada to believe in.

However, Australia is also far from perfect regarding racism and anti-immigrant bias.

Regarding re-triage under OB 407D, the question is what the result of the triage was. If the ATIP is from after your receipt of CIT 521 and it says something like "Re-assessed under OB 407D, RQ no longer necessary, residency to be assessed at interview" that means things are probably moving forward on your application.

Frankly, if you're not tired of the winters and if you did honestly complete your 1095+ days, it would be far cheaper and easier to hire a lawyer to file for a writ of mandamus than to move to Australia.

Hi jakeinsauga,

I can understand the frustration as I am in the same boat, applied in 2011, RQed, no reason for RQ is provided in ATIP and no test yet. I do agree with eileen, its time to file writ of mandamus. have you passed 40 months since you applied ? your local office ?

Hi Moti,

I am sitting at 25 month time right now, might need another more than a year to be able to file for writ of mandamus unless their published time is reduced by the end of the year. E.g. if they say 2 years for non routine on their website soon..then i should be able to file the writ of mandamus soon.

You might think it shouldnt be frustrating, but seriously, i m so mad at this country for ruining my life.

I'm curious in what way this country has ruined your life if ok to ask?

i think if one has PR he can visit back home to see his or her parents and loved once and family members. I don't understand why people panic for getting citizenship soon. as long as you are employed in Canada enjoy your life. citizenship will eventually come.
I strongly feel people who are impatient and eager to get citizenship want to break tie with Canada and settle elsewhere. Canada has given a lot to us respect and love the country...be happy...be honest...and believe me your journey to acquire citizenship will be smooth.
have patience and cic is changing soon after BillC24 implemented everything will be fast as imposters will be weeded out.

Being "impatient" as you call it has nothing to do with leaving Canada, but with the prerogatives citizenship provides. I'd rather become a citizen and have the full rights, than remain a second-hand entity with a precarious future. If you claim that voting doesn't matter, well, it matters to me. Alas, CIC officers tend to judge with the innuendos and logic you lay out here...

How is Canada ruining your life? You have PR, you can work/travel freely wherever you want in Canada, you can get Canadian health care. For people living in a 3rd world country you are living in paradise...the grass is not always greener on the other side.

I got my ATIP report , how do we check whether r RQ was retriaged under OB407D?

mailvdutt can you copy paate your atip report. so we can benefit and understand. please check and tell us your RQ reason as well

Posters should be wary of general requests to copy and paste private information.

My Guess Jake wants to Move to USA on TN Visa :D

There is nothing wrong with being impatient to become a citizen. Waiting in silence doesn't make you a better future citizen.

I waited almost 3 years. I did not wait silently. By speaking out I learned about the political process here. I joined a political party. I got a resolution voted into the party platform. I learned how the legal system works here. I researched and I read. I met with advocates working for immigrant and refugee rights. Did that make me a worse citizen or make me less worthy than those who wait happily and silently?

Because I spoke out against unreasonable delays in a radio interview, CIC management made inquiries to ask if my file could be expedited (in the end it was not).

Silence is not the secret citizenship test. Let's not shame one another for wanting our citizenship rights.
