My citizenship application is Inprocess and my PR card is going to expire in two month should I apply for renewal or wait.
What are the pros and cons if I apply for renewal while my application for citizenship is in process.

You can renew while your citizenship application is in process.

Pros:
You have a valid PR card if you leave Canada in the next few months, before you get your citizenship.
Cons:
You'll be $50 poorer.

Really. Just renew it for the peace of mind. You don't know if you have to leave the country in the next few months. It's better to have a valid PR card and not use it than need it and not have it. ‍♀️♀️

Hi all,

Having looked through this thread it looks like aor for a pr card renewal takes time to arrive, even via email?

The website boasts that processing time is 26 days but I'm assuming that's 26 days after receiving aor. I sent my application via courier and they got it Nov 27th and I haven't heard from them yet, no email, nothing. Curious if anyone else is experiencing something like this? I want to go travelling in the spring (may, I think) and I'm wondering if I can buy tickets now..

My app is for a renewal due to name change.

Also, when I was sending my application (November 25th) biometrics were not required, but now I'm seeing on their website that starting dec 3rd ppl need to give biometrics. Curious if that means my application will be processed according to rules in effect as I was applying or of they'll ask me to submit biometrics.... I just kind of want to hope that there won't be a problem with my travel in May = that I'll have my card by then...

That's 26 days the moment they received your application in their mail room. So Nov 27 plus give or take 26 days, that's how long you're application will take to process. I'm not sure now tho if you have to do the biometrics part since that one is a brand new requirement.

My application for permanent resident card was received on November 18th
Email last night December 9th saying the application was received by immigration
Online status changed to decision made this morning December 10th.

I will update when anything else changes.

They put my mailing address as the address on my passport and not the one I supplied. My home address on the online portal is correct but the mailing address is the one on my passport. I am waiting to speak to them at the call center to rectify this at the moment as I can't change the mailing address through the portal. I hope this can be changed fast as I have a trip planned in 2 weeks.

Thanks Rel! That would be great! Ok so I'm not going to lose hope :)

  1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on November 22, 2019.
  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on December 13, 2019.
  3. We started processing your application on December 13, 2019.
Does say 'Decision Made' on the page prior.

Will keep you updated as I receive more notifications.

just now I have checked " Find out do you need Bio metrics "and it clearly says you don't need Bio metrics for PR Card renewal.

Hey there. My application must ve reached them by 29 th too. I havent received any physical or virtual corrspondence too. So i believe they havent started working on late November applications yet. Lets hope for the best. Will update whenever anything comes in.

Yes you have to include a copy of your existing or expired card as well.

Based on my experience, Please always follow the IRCC application instructions guide + documents checklist.
