Hi All,

Hope this is the right place to post this! My husband landed Nov 10, and after waiting 100+ days for the PR card, we just received a request for new photos (*angry screams..*). However, the issue is that my husband has to travel frequently for work, and will need to apply for the PRTD while we wait for them to re-issue the card.

Since he is a relatively new PR, and has essentially been here the whole time since November, what kind of "proof" does he need to provide that he will be his residency obligation in the future? If we complete all the boxes, obviously it will total less than the necessary number of days but only because that time hasnt passed yet.

Can someone help with the confusion?

1. You realize that PRTDs are for one entry only? They are usually valid for 6 months and you have to apply to an overseas office.
2. As he "landed" in Nov/15 he has until Nov/2020 to meet his PR obligations, so it is a non issue.
3. The only way he could get a multiple entry PRTD is the following:

Travel document counterfoils are normally issued for a single entry to Canada. If you meet the residency obligation but are residing outside of Canada on a long-term basis (for example, if you are a permanent resident accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse), you may want to request a long-term multiple entry travel document. To do so, you should include a cover letter explaining your circumstances and requesting a multiple entry travel document. These can be issued for up to five years but cannot extend beyond the expiry date of your passport.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

1. Yes, I know it's for outside of Canada - husband is spending time in Lima, Peru because of a temporary contract (and really only need the travel document because we are still waiting for the card). He already has tickets to return Mar 24 so he'd definitely use it very shortly.

2. In terms of residency obligation, we just fill out the application with all the appropriate dates and leave it as is without explanation? Or should we attach a cover letter explaining the situation?

3. He won't need multiple entry, as hopefully the PR card arrives before then. But i guess my question is would they give him a second PRTD if he travels out of canada and needs to return without the PR card? Or does that appear negative on his file?

1. Just fill it out with the dates, as IRCC will see that he is still in compliance.
2. Yes, they would as they know (or should know the initial processing time for a PR card) Now showing 38 days.

Thank you so much for your answers.. at one point the processing time was 109 day

I guess the only reason why I was asking is that the instruction guide has the following confusing verbiage:

If you have been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years

you must show that you will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date you became a permanent resident.

How can you technically show a future residency obligation? The document checklist doesn't ask for more documents, but not sure if things like rental agreements, memberships, or other ties to Canada will have any merit? Maybe I'm overthinking this..

Sorry and one more question - there is question 13 that states:
"Where there any terms and conditions applied to you at the time you were granted permanent residence or landed in Canada"?

The CoPR has Condition 51.. So we would answer yes and provide those details in the bottom of the document?
