Hi there
I am looking for some answer, my wife is a Swedish citizen with a Canadian landed paper. She never applied a PR card when we were in Canada. Now she lived here with me in London UK for last 9 years.
The question I want ask is. 1) is she still a landed immigrant 2) time spent outside with a Canadian husband is it counted.3) we plan to go back to Canada permanently in two month time is she ok to travel with me with her landed paper and Swedish passport . Or she will not allow to board the plane. 4) if we land in Canada does the immigration allow her in Canada as a landed immigrant.
Even though she spent long time out side Canada, we travel to visit family members in Canada five times. she was accompanied with a Canadian husband. Isn't she meets PR obligations?
Your answer is appreciated .

Yes she still meets the residency obligation requirements BUT she may be required to prove it by supplying evidence when you return to Canada, both at the POE and when applying for a PR card. The correct, official way to proceed would be to obtain a Travel Document from the local Canadian Visa Office, where they would perform the residency obligation examination. http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/applications/travel.asp
As a Swedish passport is visa-exempt, she could travel with just that but a PRTD may save some hassle at the POE.

but Zardoz, dont you think she would have hard time to obtain a PR card.
How can she prove her residency obligation and she was living with her CANADIAN passport, coz there were no exit, entry stamps.

There are lots of ways.. Joint bank accounts / credit cards / utility bills / tax records / lease agreement / health records... The list goes on.

Hi Zardoz,

I have a query for my friend (who was Bangladesh citizen at time of PR and now Hungary citizen at time of PR renewal).

she obtained PR Canada (spousal category) some 4 and a half year ago. But after landing she went to Hungary (she had a residence permit there and was working) with his Canadian passport holder Husband, She lived there for 2 years and then return to Canada with him with full intention of living in Canada now. Meanwhile, she has now obtained Hungary citizenship and revoked her original Bangladesh citizenship for that.

Now she has to apply for PR card renewal, so the question stands , does CIC will give her refusal or tough time coz now she has a new citizenship (Hungary) during this Canadian PR period ?
