PR processing - got married - updated IRCC

Hello everyone,

I would really like for everyone's advise with my current situation.

I had submitted my PR application last December, got the document for biometrics this March. While waiting for that, I got married in March also. When I came back to Canada, I got an email from IRCC on answering some questions about my profile, and it included there to update them if there is a change in civil status; so, I did.

That was in April, now it's May and they sent me a "kit" of the additional documents I need to do so I can add(?) my spouse into my application.

The issues are:
1. He doesn't want to come here yet. Do I still need to go through with the add-on?
2. My PGWP is expiring this August. Although, I applied for that bridging program in March.
3. They only gave us 30 days to comply the needed documents. Can they give an extension?
4. Will it stall MY current PR application? I was so close yet I have to do this added step.

1. Your husband has no intention of taking the PR? If that's the case, add him as non-accompanying. Yes, he'll be asked to go through biometrics and medicals even as non-accompanying.

4. Yes, your application will be delayed slightly by a few months. That's normal once you add your spouse or a new family member to your application.

In your case:
1. you will be virtually landed after getting approved - you'll get portal 1, portal 2, and subsequently your eCoPR. You'll become a PR when you receive eCoPR.
2. your spouse will be asked to submit their passport for stamping. They'll be issued a paper CoPR along with the IM-1 visa stamped on passport. Your spouse will become a PR once they physically land in Canada and get their CoPR signed during immigration.

No challenges for either of you.

In regards to question #2; i wanted to ask if you've heard of that Bridging Permanent Residents program? It's where they give an extension to someone with an almost expiring pgwp.

If you have heard, do you know of anyone who was able to get that extension?

If you have an AOR, you should be able to apply for a BOWP. A lot of folks on the forum got their status extended through BOWP.

1. If you've a post box, it is usually where the PR card will be sent to. We never met the person delivering our PR cards.
2. Yes, you can visit and give him his PR card. The only issue is that you also have to ensure that your PR card arrives in time. If you don't have a PR card, you can't come back without PRTD or through land border from USA(requires US visa).
