Hi all,

Need your expert advice.

My son was born in Ireland (Both parents are PR) and travelled with us to Canada on eTA few days ago. We are now in the process of applying his PR.

- How long can he stay in Canada on eTA? Can it be extended?
- Can we apply for his PR online? I can only see paper version of these forms in the application package.
- Can someone confirm if below understanding regarding forms to fill is correct based on our situation.

Forms for the sponsor - Parent.
1. Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344)
2. Sponsorship Evaluation [IMM 5481]
3. Financial Evaluation [IMM 1283] ---> Not required as no job in Canada yet.
4. Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] ---> Not required as applying for dependent child

For the person being sponsored (principal applicant) - Child
1. Generic Application Form for Canada [IMM 0008]
2. Additional Dependants/Declaration [IMM 0008DEP] ---> Not required as both mother and father are PR holders
3. Additional Family Information [IMM 5406] - not required for babies (age < 18 years)
4. Schedule A – Background/Declaration [eIMM 5669]
5. Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] ---> Not required

Where do I need to show finances in above?

Regards

I'll help with two questions.

- There is no online application. You need to submit a paper application.
- He can stay for six months on an eTA, Once you are getting close to the end of that six month stay, apply to extend his visitor status from within Canada so that he can stay longer with legal status.

Would add that you should be purchasing travel medical insurance. Depending on the province you are in your child may not qualify for medical coverage until they are a PR.

Thanks Canuck78 - yes, we got travel medical insurance before travelling to Toronto, Canada from Ireland.

Did you get the information you need? I feel newborns arent well taken care of by these forms, education etc etc
Hi Solman07,

Thanks for responding, yes seems like that. The form asked for language preference for a newborn!!. LOL..

Yes, I filled and mailed the application last month to Sydney, NS. Waiting for acknowledgment now.. it seems the average time for an acknowledgment letter is over 4 months and the total time is 12-14 months.
