PR card renewal - how do we calculate travel history?

Hi all,

I have a question for the travel history section (absences from Canada) for PR card renewal. This is especially when we are arriving Canada on the same day as our place of departure.

For example, if I take a 24 hour flight from Asia to Canada on 2nd May 2014 (6am flight), I will arrive in Canada on the same day of 2nd May 2014 at 6pm. (This include transit in USA on 2nd May 2014). This is due to the 12 hour time zone difference between Canada and some Asian countries when we are flying back.

If this is the case, how do I fill out the travel history dates for my absences from Canada,

from: 2014 - 04- 01 to: 2014 - 05 - 02 (??) OR 2014 - 05 - 01

On 2nd May 2014, I was both out of Canada and in Canada.

Secondly, if my absences is from: 2014 - 03 -01 to 2014 - 03 - 05, is this counted as 4 days?

I appreciate all advice regarding this question. Many thanks.

my understanding is that ANY part of the day spend in Canada is counted so if you departed on the Monday and returned on the Friday, your absent days would be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
this would be the same as travelling across timezones as it is possible to depart and arrive on the same day.

Hi

lpc19800 is absolutely right

ANY part of the day spend in Canada is counted so if you departed on the Monday and returned on the Friday, your absent days would be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
this would be the same as travelling across timezones as it is possible to depart and arrive on the same day.

from: 2014 - 04- 01 (part of day spent in canada) to: 2014 - 05 - 02 (part of the day spent in canada)
Will be 30 days absence

Secondly, if my absences is from: 2014 - 03 -01 (part of day spent in canada) to 2014 - 03 - 05 (part of day spent in canada), is this counted as 4 days?
Will be 3 days absence

Many thanks for both your replies. I appreciate it very much.

Using the same example, if my travel history is from: 2014 - 03 -01, Saturday (part of day spent in canada) to: 2014 - 03 - 05, Wednesday (part of day spent in canada),
I have a total of 3 days of absences, namely Sunday (2nd March) , Monday (3rd March) and Tuesday (4th March).

In this case, in my travel history section of the PR renewal form, should I write:

a) From: 2014 - 03 -01 To: 2014 - 03 - 05 Number of Days: 3 Days

OR

b) From: 2014 - 03 -02 To: 2014 - 03 - 04 Number of Days: 3 Days

I would think it's the 2nd one (Option B). Am I right?

(b) is correct.
The departure date and arrival date should be shown in history columns - "From" and "To".
But for counting days of absence from Canada don't include both days.

If you travel to USA in the morning and return same day - that day is not to be shown as absence.

Hi Wilson.

As per your explanation, then it should be (a). also by doing this. it will match the entry date stamps on the passport.

Of course allyp. You are correct. It is my typing error. The correct is (a) not (b)!!
Thanks for the correction.
