Hi all,
My PR renewal application was approved (after secondary review) 3 months ago. The card was sent to the local office where it got stuck...I have not received any communication from them nor a letter inviting to pick up the card.
I called CIC and was told that the local office needs to interview me (supposedly they have doubts if I met residency obligation, even thought the card was approved after secondary review in Sydney!).
Anyone in the same situation? Any idea how long it takes to finally get invited for such an interview?
thanks,

I am not and have not been in a similar situation. How long it takes varies considerably but should be a matter of a few months at most and could happen quite soon.

I am posting to note that my understanding (been following PR reports for many years now) is that it is typical for the local office to do interviews in these circumstances. So long as you are in compliance with the PR RO, living in Canada, and were truthful and complete in what you have submitted, there should be no problem . . . may take awhile, but there should be no reason to worry about your status.

thanks a lot. I am confident I met the RO (otherwise I wouldn't have applied to renew), although I was very close to the threshold with only 8 days over the required 730. I just got concerned as the CIC call center person said that "the officer in Sydney approved your application and thought you met the requirements, but the officer in local office thinks that you didn't...and needs to interview you" - it just sounded so definite and serious...and it is taking so long with no communication from them whatsoever.

6th month has started since the card got stuck in the local office. anyone in similar situation or recently received a pick up appointment letter?

Hi,

That's an unusually long wait not to even have a 'your interview is on date X' letter. Almost seems your file has been forgotten at the bottom of some pile. In regards to a review of the Secondary Review (an absurdity really) seems to me this maybe a Quality Control/ Program Integrity double check type scenario. Maybe Sidney are letting through too many SR PR Card renewals from applicants in your Local CIC Office 'region' and with only an 8 day buffer all that is needed is some doubt on a couple of days and you are below the threshold. I suggest go see your MP as in this election year they may be more 'attentive' of their constituents needs and get some progress on this. Also order your GCMS notes via the ATIP route as it may reveal what the issue is. Type 'ATIP' in the search function there is ton of info on the process. Good luck

thanks Msafiri, I don't think the file is forgotten, I think they are doing it on purpose for some reason. I call CIC and all I get is "wait". When the call centre agent actually emailed the local office to point out the delay, all they got back was a note that there is "no delay" !!!. It is really ridiculous. What I find very disrespectful is the fact that the local office never got in touch with me, no letter, no email, no phone call. They received the card at the end of March and don't even bother to reach out to me...

Did u called local CIC office what was their reaponse

This is a case where I would not hesitate to contact my MP and ask for help.

Yes, I keep calling CIC. All they tell me is that it is under secondary review (even though they have my renewed PR card approved and printed by Sydney!!!) and that I will need to see an officer for an interview to pic up the card, but they have not scheduled that appointment yet (they've had the card for 6 months!), and that I have to wait...And of course, there is no timeline, and that there is no delay (to the non-existent timeline)!!

M.R.S you meant local Montreal CIC?
Well, there is no number to call them at. I actually went there to try and talk to someone, but I was not allowed to enter the building!!! The security personnale is only allowed to let people in with invitation letters from CIC...vicious circle

Do you have something similar to what we call here a Writ of Mandamus in Canada?
It is a court order to an inferior government official to make a ruling on the case or explain the reasons why it can't.
And they can't just blow off a judge with "wait!", they must explain w-h-y wait.
