They are federal government workers & least bother about productivity. Had it been a private organization things would have been a lot better.
And therein lies the answer. Job security means they can sit on their backsides, blame it on COVID, not give a damn, and still get paid.

Not all Canadians will think like you, let alone behave so badly.

There is no need to gratuitously insult those who provide valuable services for immigrants and the public.

People need to understand that most of the government staff was redirected to help with the CERB application so that the unfortunate who have lost their means of living have money to pay for their rent and food. Also for those who think that CIC staff should work remotely fail to understand the immigration files contain a lot of sensitive information and the applicants for sure wouldnt want their details to be available in the web world if they ever get leaked. The processing times are updated on a regular basis which means when things get back closer to normal, it will be updated to reflect the actual time.

I am sure the number of CERB apps were more three months back vs now...

I still fail to understand why CIC can not work remotely. The risk of identity theft may be higher, but the health risks associated with obtaining PRTD are even higher for some. Such risks are personal and can be assessed by an applicant. I would rather sign a liability waiver and accept the vulnerability to identity theft than endure longer exposure to COVID outside of Canada.

Because some things cannot be done out of the confinement of the Government’s computer system , or taking paper applications home that contain personal information of applicants
What I fail to understand is why some people don’t understand that there’s a pandemic going on, and things have changed , albeit temporarily

Exactly! This is not a good reason to abandon PRs who may be vulnerable, even temporary.
Do you mean that you will be risk free from Covid while travelling ?? Being in Canada doesnt guarantee that you will not catch the virus. What matters is the precautions you take irrespective in what part of the world you are.

Agreed but also note that their office would be working with skeleton staff at the moment due to social distancing measures. It is not that I was never critcial of the way immigration system works but during this covid times there are a lot of things that wont work normally as it should.

I know this has nothing to do with citizenship but the problem is the same. https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/mobile/n-s-goes-10-days-without-a-new-covid-19-case-just-1-active-case-remains-1.4991583
NS where citizenship applications are received has 10 days without a new covid 19 case and just 1 active case remains but still people who applied for citizenship didn't receive a ROA until today. What is causing them really to not return to work? In Alberta last week was the second stage of reopening. People can go to barbershop, shopping mall , restaurant, gyms, public pool, movie theater and more by following specifics guidelines. Why IRCC can't resume citizenship test by following specific guideline. This is a new normal as everyone is saying so IRCC needs to adapt.

Okay... During this pandemic I am just amazed how Canadian banking industry made adjustments to their processes. Being agile is key...

Nobody is risk free. That's not the point.

The point is that expired PR card holders, who have to go abroad, are more likely to get sick themselves and bring COVID to Canada.
Expired PR card holders have two options (please correct me if I am wrong):

1. Add an additional and completely non-essential leg of travel to enter Canada through US land border instead of flying directly into Canada. This is bad for both people residing in Canada and the travelers themselves, as the risk of bringing COVID from many places on the US/Canada border is higher than the risk of catching the virus within Canada.

2. Stay abroad and wait for PRTD, which increases the risk of catching and bringing COVID back to Canada. This is especially true if they have to obtain PRTD in countries that monitor the COVID spread loosely.

Once again, not offering PR extensions from within Canada does no good to anyone. People still have to travel. They will just have to do it in a more risky way.

And I do not even want to start arguing with those who say that it is somehow more justifiable to abandon some people at the time of hardship because these people are not usually treated this way in normal times.

Realize that not all Canadians think like me. Perhaps I have higher expectations of what it is to be a public servant - agile, responsive, and keen to find solutions, rather than offering reasons not to. Industry after industry is finding sensible and reasonable workarounds, and some of them have vastly more complex deliverables than IRCC. If you think job security has nothing to do with IRCC's glacial pace, you and I have vastly differing views of how the world works. Let us agree to disagree.

Are you saying IRCC staff worked on CERB applications? Regarding sensitive information, that is a cop out. If financial firms subject to far more onerous banking regulations and securities laws can figure out a way to securely transmit information and work remotely, it should be possible for IRCC to do the same. If that's the reason being offered, sounds like they never put in place a proper business continuity plan.
