Pr card expired question again

Hi all.

I recently found out my pr card expires this march 11. Sadly wasn't smart enough to realize. So I sent of for a new pr card last month. I am a British citizen and have lived in Canada since 1994. Problem being is I was surprised by a paid holiday for 2 weeks to Jamaica this April 27th. I know I won't receive my pr card in time. So I have a few questions, should I reapply for pr card with the "urgent travel" or/ and apply for a permenant resident travel document in Kingston Jamaica and if so it says it takes 6 days and I was wondering of anyone has applied for one before and if it was pretty much smooth sailing. Or can I just come back in with my brand new British passport and my expired pr card. And beg for mercy. Next on the list is I think it's time to become a Canadian less hassle. Been here since I was 8 years old. Lol

Thanks for the help, any response is very much appreciated.

If you have a UK passport, you can just come back with your expired card and beg for mercy. You will be fine.

Thanks Leon for the reply ;D

So have you heard of people doing this? will they let me through with an expired pr?, is the travel document mostly for getting on the return flight if you don't hold a visa-waived passport? and if anyone has done the "the urgent travel enclosed" on there application for renewal of a pr card;? how long did it take i have roughly 2 months.

thanks again Leon

I have heard about people doing an urgent application and getting their PR card in less than a month.

You are right, travel documents are more to be allowed to board the plane if you are not visa exempt. If you show up in Canada with an expired PR card and tickets showing that you just left for a vacation and are coming back now, they might give you a talking to for not having a valid PR card but they will not deny you entry. They would have no reason to think that you do not meet the residency requirements or anything like that. Not when you can show that you just left recently.

I'm curious to hear how this turned out? I am in this exact situation. I just noticed this AM my card is expired and am flying to Jamaica Friday. I have been here since 1978. I am not at all comfortable mailing my passport and expired PR card to Kingston when I arrive. If I don't get them back in time I will be messed up!

I plan on taking additional documentation with me (letter of employment, marriage certificate, etc) and politely explaining my case. It may not be the best but to me is better than having no documentation at all to return to Canada with. I don't feel at ease with either scenario but to me, being interviewed upon my return is the better choice.

WelshGuy,

My brother-in-law knew I was freaking out and has a co-worker who's wife is a border agent. She phoned me and spoke to me.

She also mentions all should be fine. My biggest worry is getting on the planes but can only hope for the best at this point!

I'll let you know how I make out, leaving in 2 hours for the airport.
