PR Card Address Change after Soft Landing

Hello,
We (me H1B / Approved I140 and dependent - spouse on H4) did our soft landing at Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday, May 22; and were asked by the CBSA officer for our "permanent" address, and we mentioned that we are going to be staying with a friend at XYZ. She replied saying that since the move is not permanent, she will not begin the PR card processing; but then proceeded to ask for a GTF (goods to follow) list anyway. This GTF has the friend's address.

Questions:
1. If we absolutely need our PR cards mailed to our friend's address, is our next step to change our mailing address on CIC website using the web form?
-- is there an alternate way to get this processing started?
-- Is this change of address considered safe?
-- Do we have to specify / request them to start processing our PR cards during the application for the Change of Address explicitly?
2. If we want to apply for a PRTD eventually to re-enter Canada by air before we get our PR cards; what are the valid reasons one can give under humanitarian / compassionate grounds in Form IMM5524E?
3. Are there any legal ways for both me and spouse to be physically working from the same country?
-- can I retain H1B status / I140 if I work from Canada?
-- is there a visa (business?) that spouse can apply for to allow her to work remotely from the US for a Canadian company?

TIA.
