IMM 5669 E : Schedule A - Background / Declaration asked and provided: 23 Dec 2015
BG in Progress: 6 Jan 2016

Once you get ITA in Express Entry, you will need to do upfront medical and submit while you are applying for the PR. Medical exams are needed are done upfront. The status you are seeing is an initial status it does not mean no need for medicals for PR application.
