Guys,
With the blessing of almighty we have completed our landing on 10th. Immigration and customs went smoothly - they didn't ask me to show anything. I had declared I was carrying over 10k of money and the customs officer asked how much i was really carrying. I asked him if he want to see the check but he said no. total process took around 30 mins or so. they didn't open any of bags and asked if there's anything to follow. I gave them the form and they just stamped it.
One of my wife's friend lives in Calgary. She came with friends and took us to our aparment ( i had rented it online ). Monday was a holiday and couldn't do anything. Tuesday we went to service canada office and got our SIN number ( wait was really long though - but process was simple).. same day we opened a bank account in TD. Next day we got our Health Card number ( effective immidiately) and driver's license ( swap US for Canada).
I am staring my new job from 26th ( tentative - waiting for background check - i have been here for little over a week and not sure what do they expect to find- i guess formalities only). My wife has started to applying for jobs. Guys there are lots of jobs in Calgary and pay is really good - even for survival job. You can find a survival job within a week or so. You can always take a survival job while look for something related to your profession. I don't have a canadian degree or exp but I was lucky enough to get an offer with the blessing of almighty in my field. Jobs are there for you to grab -- don't listen to those depressing stories some ppl say in this forum.. end of the year is usually bad for job hunting due to budget/year end target etc ... there are usually more jobs around feb- apr time ..
if you have any specific questions then feel free to drop me a PM..
