Post-Graduation Work Permit URGENT Inquery !

Hi,

I would like to ask about the Post-Graduation Work Permit:

Someone who choose a program that lasts 2 years (actually 4 semesters) is eligible for work permit for 3 years?

I am confused because from my research I noticed that 1 semester is about 4 months, so the result is 4 semesters X 4 months (each)= 16

According to CIC:

There are 2 possible categories for me:

1. less than two years but more than eight months
you may get a work permit for a period no longer than the length of your program of study (for example, if you studied for nine months, a work permit may be issued for a period of nine months)

2. two years or more
a work permit may be issued for three years

So?
Do I consider to be a postgraduate student of 2 years? --> So I will take 3 years work permit?
or
Do I consider to be a postgraduate student of 16 months? --> So I will take 16 months work permit?

Hi,

1 academic year= 2 semesters/terms of full time study= atleast 8 months of actual study (4 months=1 study term)
2 academic year - 4 semesters/terms of full time study = atleast 16 months of actual study(or study+co-op term) = can be of 20 months duration if taken 1 sem/4 months break (summer term) between year 1 and 2.

So, it's one in same thing. Doesn't matter 16 months or 18 or 20 or 24 months... As long as the recognized full time course has atleast 4 full time semesters/terms, including co-op term(s)... ( @ 4 months=1 sem/term, min. actual study of 16 months), you will be eligible for a 3 year PGWP.

Anything less than full time studies of 4 semesters/terms will make you eligible for a PGWP equivalent to the duration of the course.

b) If I finish my (2 years) full time program in 24 months (4 semesters but not including the Summers)--> I am elgible again for 3 years PGWP.

Hi,

Do not get unnecessarily confused. I clearly mentioned in the last post:
2 academic year programs have atleast 4 semesters and min. 16 months of actual study( or study+co-op) is required.
Some 2 acd year programs may have 4 semesters +1co-op sem in summer or a break (20 months) or 4 semesters +2 co-op sems (24 months), whatever it may be..it has to be minimum 4 sem/16 months min. to be eligible for a 3 year PGWP. THAT's IT.
PGWP is based on the ACTUAL duration of the program and not in how long you complete. If the program is 4 semesters/ atleast 16 months of actual study..then you complete it in 16 months(if continuous) or 20 months(with 1 summer break) or longer time ( eg: by dropping or failing courses)... still you will be eligible for only a 3 year PGWP.
