Hi Gurus,
We received Conformation of PR document and temporary VISA on the passports for all the members of my family in the month of March 2016.
Only main applicant traveled to Canada and completed his landing formalities on April 2016 and applied for PR card.
Now, my wife has received some notification from passport office as she needs to renew her passport with new address as she had not completed police verification. It is not safe to travel outside india keeping this case open.

If she renew her passport now, which we may get in a week for tatkal application.
The passport which has VISA is stamped will be cancelled.
The passport number mentioned in the CPR will not be the new passport number, it will be her old passport which is cancelled for renewal of address.

Kindly advise if there could be any issues during landing formalities at immigration office canada?

Thank you

Hello there,

This is my opinion, and my sole opinion, please do not take action regarding my answer. Do a lot more research.

1/ If your wife gets to the border with old and new passport, there would be no issues as far as I know. Just make sure when they void the old passport they don't ruin the visa on it. They usually punch a hole at one corner, to make it useless, you can compose a letter and mention you need the visa so they do it at a corner that wouldn't touch the Visa. --- I did this, 6 years ago for my UK visa, and it was acceptable. I'm not sure if this method is still in place or not. Besides for immigration visas there might be a different story.

2/ The best approach is to call CIC and ask. Speak to multiple agents to make sure, ask for their number (identity) and make a note of the time you called. So you can always reference the conversation.

3/ Email CIC and tell them about this issue. You still have 10 months to land (I assume). So they might be able to issue her a new visa on the new passport, or they will advise you to do number 1.

Best of luck,

I received confirmation from my Case processing office as my wife can renew her passport and travel to Canada to complete landing formalities with both previous passport and her new passport. Thank you
