Folks,

Are you utilizing the service of a legal attorney in your application preparation process at all? If so, lets connect here and discuss some questions that everyone might have?

I''ll begin:
My lawyer (Based out of Montreal's top law firms) says after we have an ITA, he will process everything from providing employer letter templates to cover letter for a cost of 2000C$. Is it worth it? I'm planning on getting all the stuff myself and have it evaluated finally just to make sure that everything is in order? Is this a good idea?

just to file application in express entry the lawyer is charging 2000$(that's the scanning price you are paying literally) you would still have to get the documents, no use i would say follow up forum in here if you come across any issues while filling your application. But the option you are considering is pure waste.Unless you are over staying and have no proper documentation for everything might be a solution

Additionally having a representative handle your file is a pain the as* when it comes to checking updates and other things like that. All emails go to the representative and some representative's don't give you access to your mycic profile (I heard somewhere that they can't since they use a different portal to manage multiple applicants). Finally an additional cost of $2000 seems unnecessary. I filed my own application and this forum is extremely useful in terms of understand the Do's and Don'ts.

If you don't have a very complicated case I would recommend to steer away from hiring a lawyer.

I refused the services of mine (one of Toronto's top law firms) after they refused to provide me with the login/password for my account.
I should not have hired them in the first place (I discovered the forum too late in the process). Waste of time and lack of competence in handling the case as well.

having a lawyer to assist you is a good idea, that's what I choose to do it.
because my lawyer linked the profile to my own cic account, so I have access to my profile to check updates. but can not modify it. if that's what you concern, you have ask to have your profile linked.
I think lawyer is really helpful for my case, now my case went really smooth and cic never asked for additional docs yet. and I have someone behind my back for support, I can raise any questions and they willing to help. and I think lawyer is here handle CIC unexpected troubles.

If you need to have your documents checked and you'd prefer someone who is not in the forum, try docveri. I have not used their services and dont know how good they are in terms of privacy as they would have access to all your personal info.

Are you his only client? if not, then you will definitely not get his utmost attention and care on your profile. On the other hand, if you apply by yourself, I bet you will be up 24/7 (literally), checking everything everyday or even every hour.

My advise...even if you use the services of a Representative you have to double-question everything they ask you to provide and not to provide. You have to be one who is "mentally" managing the file!
Don't have trust the Representative will:
- send you 100% correct worded forms,
- consider all aspects of you and your dependents and what documents you have to provide
- think ahead and let you know the specifics about PCC (when to obtain / where to be at time of submission / how to avoid the trigger of PCC due to travel etc etc)
- double check and verify of all the docs you return to him (like did you obtain the correct PCC or is there any country specific requirement as per CIC guidance)
- etc etc

I am using the services of a Representative as the company arranged for it and is paying for it, but I am the one who is doing all the work.

I'm not assuming *one thing* for him to do without me providing it. But given that he's seen 100's-1000's of applications, taking his help in preparing letters, statements etc would be a good thing.

I do have a clean record: MS degree from US, work exp of 3.5 years, CLB 9 on IELTS. Nothing to hide or fear for.

I'm under the impression that we don't need to provide all employer specifics/dates/info until we have that ITA in the EE profile just using ECA & IELTS score. Correct me if I'm wrong here pls?

This is incorrect. You will need to enter information for the ones you are claiming points for. The rest will only be needed after ITA.

There are pros and cons to having a representative. IMO it boils down to how much time and effort you are willing to invest in the project. If you are willing to invest a lot, you can do it yourself, if not get a rep.

All the best

you have a very fair chances of getting your profile done without have a lawyer, have ms in usa, you can get your ECA done with no issues, 3 year of legit work experience ,all you need it employment letters from your employer stating you worked for them under NOC code for min 32hr/week with your annual salary ,on it also include start date and end date.Include your job duties matching to your code.As part of proof of employment include your T4 and notice of assessment from revenue agency and get FBI clearance and you are good to apply. That's the best advice i can give, but it your point of view how you want to consider your application be handled.

Spot on, I couldn't say better.

I decided to stick to the forum and get my answers here, and so far so good. I've got one PNP nomination and 4 months into my PR application.

I have a problem of name. I have two names first name AAAA last name BBBB. Both my names are same in my all documents educational as well as ID card / Passport.

Now the problem is that my father name is has spelling mistakes as well as full name error but thats interesting as well.

My father name in my ID/Passport is ( Abu Bakar Fatani)

My father name in my educational docs is (Aboo Baker) only.

My father name in his Passport is (Aboo Baker Fatani).

So now I have the problem I dont want to change my father name in any of my documents because it is a looong and hectic process in my country and I know that I dont have the power to do that. I have heard people saying about affidavits but my questions are

1. Can I make affidavit alone without needing my father in it? (But there is no problem in my name)

2. If my father makes an affidavit how will he make it and how can it help me because I am applying not my father?

3. As I am not changing my names looking for an affidavit only so do I still have to choose the option that I have used different names?

Please help guys

I hired Campbell cohen law firm. I think its like an insurance. If u don't face any issues then it seems waste of money. But if something goes wrong, then u'll pat urself for the decision. Look at it as an investment and not a spending. They didn't gave me login and password either. 2000 dollars mentioned above is mostly for the "quality check" they do in which a fresh pair of eyes goes over all your document and recommends any changes that needs to be done. My file got cleared within 2.5 months and got PPR. Don't know whether that's due to Campbell Cohen law firm or no. I had some issues with them with regards to their staff but it was promptly worked upon.

Are you really the orange freak in the White House????

Campbell Cohen are the guys that give us space on their site for this forum. If I had to engage the services of a consultant, I'd use them.
